The truth is that Russia is still invading Ukraine and we as the western block are backing Ukraine and emposing sanctions on Russia, the desire to escalate further to military intervention is sane if the desire is to then descalate to a new status quo, this comes from Russia's own playbook. Is the west able and willing to act and defend it's interests or is it afraid and willing to back down and abandon it's values for the illusion of security? Because make no mistake it is an illusion, appeasement does not work.
