  1. It's not "protect at all costs." If it were, we would never send soldiers overseas in the first place. The issue is, at what cost is it worth it? How many hundreds of soldiers should be sacrificed to evacuate a handful of Americans, most of whom chose to stay until the last minute for reasons of local family or other priorities, when there is a good chance of extracting them later? You can argue either way, but Biden has a lot more intel than I do so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here.
