I'm definitely looking forward to a proper proof that all primes equal to 1 mod 4 can be written as a sum of 2 squares. 3blue1brown did this same topic (it's probably my favorite video he ever did) and skipped that part as well, and it's been floating in the back of my mind as an unsolved problem ever since.
