  6.  @ANONYMOUS__USER__  Not really. USA lost in Vietnam but remember that while fighting there Americans also went to the Moon. USA space program was stuck in the 60s. USA economy was also more vibrant and basically all of Western Europe and South America were with them. Yes, there were high crimes rates, but economy was still growing, culturally USA was predominant on a large portion of the globe... USSR instead was seen as the enemy and feared and even its allied started getting far in the 70s, like China. Communist was already on its path to the grave and the '80s gave the final push
