@Charlie_the_Robot-01 He asked for the immediate abolition of slavery and Lincoln said no And he wanted to be general of the army, not commander in chief, something similar to Grant

Very few Southerner Italian dislike him
14
@SuProcione Italians usually speak Italian with each others
4
Actually very few don't like him, usually the mislead who never opened an History book
3
And the fact he was Freemason: so what? Do you even know what freemasonry is?
3
Meglio? Divisi e deboli? Ma per favore
2
False
2
@gradipadia9800 Well, you should broaden the list of the people you know. The people I talked with, including my relatives, don't think so
2
@gradipadia9800 I'm Italian too and nobody I know from the South share that opinion
2
What crimes? There weren't children in the 1000 Bronte was an open and bloody revolt with deaths BEFORE Bixio had to intervene
2
@john_fortres He did all for Italy and Freemasonry wanted an united Italy. He fought always for the oppressed and united our state. He was a great person and an hero
2
Except he is not. Unlike Napoleon or the Kings of France, not particularly liked in Brittany, Provence or Corsica
2
Well, the father of Corsica nation felt Italian. He probably would have liked a Federation more than an unitary state though...
2
@mr.archivity France asked Nice too actually
2
@mr.archivity No they would not. Napoleon the III asked both Savoy and Nice
2
@chequereturned He probably did take inspiration
2
@ryno155 Venetians knew it wasn't possible to recreate it. They might have preferred a Federation more than an unitary state. Trieste too celebrated in 1918 when it was finally freed. Sure, some people might have preferred Austria, but the majority, Italians, in fact didn't
2
@熊唯嘉 Yes, and only the aristocracy and landowners close to the Bourbon
2
@john_fortres He is.
1
@aaronpaul9188 He is not. Few might hate him, sure, but I'm sure it's less than Napoleon is in Corsica or other regions of France proud of their History
1
Just a correction: an idea of an united Italy existed before Garibaldi
1
BS
1
Garibaldi was 53 when that happened
1
@mr.archivity Not really, Napoleon asked before giving help and a Treaty was signed No Nice, no French help
1
@mr.archivity Yes, but Cavour feared that if he refused to give Nizza Napoleon would have given back or helped Austria taking back Lombardy
1
@mr.archivity Cavour did speak Italian. And he didn't hate, he was just a practical man, less inclined to revolutionary outburst He always dreamed to unite Italy
1
@mr.archivity He may have said that but he also said "I want to be the first Prime Minister of Italy" He wanted to unite Italy and he did as Rosario Romeo cited
1
@mr.archivity Everyone has those moments of tiredness and fatigue. He didn't act upon them though
1
Well, since it's about our unification it's normal patriotic sentiment rise when talking about it
1
If you think so you don't know Italy
1
You know that's bs, right?
1
@ryno155 What do you mean "why"????
1
@ryno155 What's to explain? You wrote something that has no ties with Reality
1
@ryno155 Savoia was part of an ITALIAN kingdom for centuries and had ties with Italy more than France, as did Nice and Monaco. All three had Italian majorities Italy was freed and united, Sicily didn't want Bourbon and often rebelled, Venice fought under the Tricolour and Friuli wanted to be Itslian and celebrated in 1918, like Trentino Alto Adige
