Washington:
The Arizona man that some right-wing morons baselessly claim was part of secret FBI plot to orchestrate the January 6 insurrection told the House panel investigating the attack that *he has no ties to the FBI or law enforcement, a committee aide told CNN.
The aide provided details about the man, Ray Epps, and his cooperation with the panel, after his name came up at a Senate hearing on Tuesday. Two GOP senators referred to Epps while questioning a top FBI official about whether FBI agents infiltrated or incited the pro-Trump mob.
"The Select Committee has interviewed Mr. Epps," a spokesperson for the committee told CNN in a statement on Tuesday after the hearing. "Mr. Epps informed us that he was not employed by, working with, or acting at the direction of any law enforcement agency on January 5th or 6th or at any other time, and that he has never been an informant for the FBI or any other law enforcement agency."
The theory about Epps is based on bullshit circumstantial speculation and little -- if any -- concrete evidence. That hasn't stopped Fox personalities and GOP lawmakers from pushing the idea that Epps was a central player in the FBI's supposed false-flag operation
Promoters of the claim focused on several videos of Epps encouraging people to attack the Capitol. They also point out that his photo was on an early FBI "most wanted" list, but was later removed. Because he hasn't been arrested, the theory goes, he must be working for the FBI.
In one of the videos, which was filmed in Washington on January 5, Epps told a group of Trump supporters that "tomorrow, we need to go into the Capitol." This drew some positive responses from the crowd, but also some jeers, and some people starting to accuse Epps of being a "fed."
While authorities haven't commented, there is a plausible explanation for why Epps hasn't been charged with a crime. Nearly all of the 700-plus defendants charged in connection with January 6 either stepped inside the Capitol building or are accused of assaulting police on Capitol grounds. To date, no evidence has emerged showing that Epps entered the Capitol on January 6 or that he tussled with police.

By repeatedly charging the Secret Service as much as five times the allowable government rate to protect his family at Trump properties Trump twisted the Secret Service’s protective mission into a personal cash cow
all while, lying about it to taxpayers
Back in May, the organization, CREW, got documents that showed the Secret Service had paid nearly $2 million to the business Trump refused to divest from when he became president
Even worse, we saw evidence that, again and again, when Trump’s family went to Washington, D.C., they had the Secret Service protect them at Trump International Hotel forcing agents and supervisors to seek permission from the office of the agency’s chief financial officer to pay above the legal government rate for lodging. This even though there was no security reason requiring Team Trump to stay at that specific hotel
But one thing was missing from their records: the room rates. In the documents that were turned over, the government redacted the General Services Administration's government rate for the room and what the hotel wished to charge the Secret Service. Thanks to this week’s release by the House Oversight and Reform Committee, they have those forms unredacted. And we see that, for example, on a night in November 2017, when the government rate set by the GSA for a hotel room in Washington was supposed to be capped at $201, the Trump hotel charged agents $1,185 per room for Donald Trump Jr.’s visit.
When Eric Trump visited Washington a few months earlier, the nightly government rate was supposed to be capped at $242 per night; but the Trump hotel billed the Secret Service $1,160 a night
It’s worth mentioning that the White House has guest rooms but Trump couldn't bill the government for more money had they stayed there...
Of course, presidents and their families need to be protected by the Secret Service — protection that continues even after a president has left office, but we’ve never seen a commander-in-chief and his family repeatedly use the Secret Service to line their pockets in this way
There’s no reason the Trump family needed to stay at Trump properties
The stays became such a moneymaker for the Trump family that the Secret Service had to request a larger budget to cover all of its trips to Trump properties
In fact — and completely without a shred of evidence to show it was true — Trump kept using the Secret Service as an excuse to stay at his properties
You may remember Trump’s wanting to hold the 2020 G-7 summit at one of his Florida golf resorts.
He claimed that it was at least partly on the Secret Service’s recommendation, records that were obtained suggested that wasn’t true
Trump also cashed in bigly by staying at his Las Vegas hotel as he traveled back and forth to the West Coast for events — again claiming it was on the Secret Service’s recommendation, and again providing no evidence to back up such assertions
Now, you might be wondering why the Trump Organization didn’t just comp the Secret Service for the rooms if the Trumps wanted to stay at their properties so badly. Trump is ostensibly a billionaire, right?
Well, according to son Eric Trump, the family did just that: “If my father travels, they stay at our properties for free,” he falsely claimed at the Yahoo Finance All Markets Summit in 2019. “So everywhere that he goes, if he stays at one of his places, the government actually spends, meaning it saves a fortune, because if they were to go to a hotel across the street, they’d be charging them $500 a night, whereas, you know, we charge them, like, $50,” only for services like housekeeping.

Ex President Trump ranked fourth worst president in C-SPAN historian survey
C-SPAN asked 142 presidential historians to rank presidents in 10 categories.
Former President Donald Trump was ranked 41st out of 45 presidents in C-SPAN’s presidential leadership survey of 142 presidential historians, released Wednesday.
C-SPAN has conducted the survey since 2000 asking historians to rate presidents based upon 10 categories
The twice-impeached former president scored last in moral authority and administrative skills and 32 in public persuasion
and 34 in economic management
Rachel Katz, C-SPAN’s survey project coordinator, said during a C-SPAN segment Wednesday that C-SPAN understands there’s a high interest in presidential history.
“And this is a way to start a conversation. Get people talking about it. Get people thinking about what makes for a good president,” Katz said.
Abraham Lincoln ranked first overall, a position he’s held since the first survey, with George Washington and Franklin D. Roosevelt holding the second and third spots since the start.
Barack Obama moved up from the 12th spot to 10th, and his “pursued equal justice for all” rating remained his highest individual rating, at third, just below Lincoln.
“Despite the fact that we’ve become more aware of the historical implications of racial injustice in this country and we’re continuing to grapple with those issues, we still have slaveholding presidents at or near the top of the list,” Howard University professor Edna Greene Medford said in a statement. “Washington, still the second president on the list, enslaved people during his term. “So even though we may be a bit more enlightened about race today, we are still discounting its significance when evaluating these presidents."
