I know full well what the flag stands for, and therefore, am in no need of your history lesson. Those that are "proud to be a Texan" believe their State to be the greatest State in the country, there are armed, nutjob militia groups in Texas who thrive on just that, calling themselves the Republic of Texas.
I identify ss being from the South, because of my love of Southern Rock, Southern Cooking, Southern Values, Southern Hospitality, Catfishing on the bayou, Cajun/Creole music, Cajun food, our accents, honky-tonks, cowboy boots & cowboy hats, etc...
My values and desires arent necessarily those of a "Texan", but reflect more of Louisiana, where I also lived, therefore, I identify as "being from the South".
Im also a lead singer in a Southern Rock Band, and we play Louisiana Swamp Blues, Texas Blues, and ass-kicking Lynyrd Skynyrd Southern Rock,
...coz Im from the South. ✌

with your logic, I, from the South, Texas, who now lives in Oregon, and has always displayed my "rebel flag" proudly, as a symbol of the South, and not supporting slavery or racism, would be ok to continue doing so.
Before you launch into a tirade, be aware that my Wife & I marched, and laid out prone on the Morrison Bridge in Portland, beside thousands of other PEACEFUL protesters, including those from the BLM Movement.
PS. I havent had that flag out of my drawer in years...
