The secret is strong, durable metal and not just metal, but a lot more metal than needed along with long term refinement of the same platform, design and architecture

Well the supra engine is 35 years old, has 2.67 times fewer cylinders and less than half the engine displacement.

@martinsvensson6884 have you seen the honda prelude from 1988, with 4-wheel/rear-wheel steering. The Nissan ZX300 and Mitsubishi GTO 3000 both decked out with a lot of tech, Acura/Honda NSX, Nissan Skyline R32-34 GTR, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo or Subaru Impreza WRX. The Mazda RX7. The Integra Type-R, Toyota MR2. All these cars were high-tech and affordable compared to many cars the managed to compete with that were outside their class and price range. And keep in mind the price and class of those cars, don't compare them to cars that costed 2-10x times more, compare them to cars of equal price. Though in Europe japanese cars were never very popular and have always been overpriced for some reason, but still.

@martinsvensson6884 The non-economy-box 80s and 90s Japanese cars were much more advanced in many ways than most cars out there at the time.
