  8. IDK about surgeon, but I'd take an engineer who started self-educating at the age of 10-12 over any PhD from any university that solely relied on the education system. How do I know? The best engineers I know have not stepped foot in university and barely went to school. Instead they started self-educating from the age of 10-12 and going to private courses and they got engineering jobs During high school or straight out of high school. Now by the age of 23-25 they earn 3-6x the average salary.

  13. Ok, so let's look at this. I live in a small country, where if people move at all it is to the capital or three biggest cities apart from the capital. But at the same time, from 1990-2024 we have gone from almost 11 million to 6.5 million population(and that's counting people abroad), while we have built 3-4x more homes in every major city. Yet in the 90s the median home was 2-3x median yearly salaries and was 71-74m^2, while since 2021 the median home has been 9-12x median salaries and 48-51m^2. All of our major cities are half or less the population they were 30-35 years ago, except the capital, which is 100 000 fewer people than 10 years ago. Again tons of apartment building a being built, tons of houses, they are almost all next to empty, 0 interior, gray empty boxes. What happens is corporations and rich people buy them out or straight up build them and then use an algorithm, with data about the area's income, to technically price fix the rents/prices to where they cost what is on the edge of affordable for 2x median salaries to get a mortgage or rent, in the age where people are most alone. And it's legal, because they are using algorithms for it and not technically colluding. Also we don't build houses from cardboard, it's all steel reinforced concrete and brick that last no less than 100 years.

  14. Sorry but no, STEM/Engineering graduates nowadays are jobless unless they went to private course and/or self-educated. I know from experience, if I hadn't gone to private academies and read and mastered books, I would be jobless like my friends from university. While the most successful people I know never stepped there, they started self-educating and going to private courses at the age of 10-12 and by 16-19 they had junior engineering jobs. Yes during high school.

  17. The education system wastes 12-20 years of your life, your youth while producing weak, stupid useless people. That goes doubly so for STEM(Ask me how I know). It's only useful for Law and Medicine and that's only because they are state mandated. You would learn infinitely more through self-education and private courses. If kids were specialized starting at the age of 10-12 in One engineering field, Or one trade, or law or commerce, by the time they are 16-20 years old, they'd be highly skilled and knowledgeable experts that would be able to work a middle position in their (sub)sphere and wouldn't be desperately handing out their CVs to 1000 companies hoping that one would hire them. I have almost two-dozen friends, acquaintances and people I know that didn't go to university, or even before finishing high-school, got engineering jobs paying 3-6x the average salary by the age of 22-25. How? They skipped school as much as possible without getting evicted, while going to private courses and self-educating. And they aren't the exception for a random reason, they are the exception, because they didn't follow the system. My best friend got a software engineering job after 10th grade(before finishing high school), two more friends got a network engineer job after 1tth grade, another one got a system admin job after 10th grade, two more friends got software engineering jobs straight out of highschool. Another friend got an automotive engineering job 1 year after graduation as he needed to get integrated in Germany. And the list goes on.

  31.  @brentmartin6833  No, because what happens is that now they have assets which increase their net worth then they borrow money against said assets/net worth and reinvest 95%+ of it, use 5% to spend on their livelihoods and the new investments (usually)return a higher profit to repay the loan itself and the cycle continues. And real estate is better than the vast majority of stocks when it comes to value growth since it's super speculative.

  41.  @trickslies844  Well my friends from university with fancy degrees in CS, Telecom, machine engineering, system admin, etc, etc are jobless 2 years later. The only reason I'm not is because I self-educated and went to private courses to gain actual knowledge and skill.

  42. @ Only government mandated degrees are worth it and that's only because they are mandated like Medicine, Law and Architecture. They still teach you jack all in Medicine and Architecture I have a lot of relatives that are doctors and my father's company maintains and fixes medical equipment, I know a ton of doctors, most suck. But they have two dozen degrees that's for sure, both from uni and private courses.

Also what were the policies that made this possible, I can't find them. I'm too young and not even in the USA, but I'm sure the same type of policies became the norm in Europe too and I don't know how it was before and after those policies were enacted, because I don't know what changed. Also didn't it start in the 70s?

  61.  @domninin  The problem with taxes is that the governments are just as bad as companies 9/10 times. Once in a while you get good rulers, but the rest of the time they are just thieves. In my opinion all the fees and taxes kill small businesses, while big ones can afford them. New small businesses can't compete with mega corporations anymore.

  62.  @domninin  There were studies done, next to no monopolies, duopolies or oligopolies have existed without the help of one or multiple governments. They wouldn't exist if the governments didn't make them as big. And ask any small business how much all the regulations, fees and taxes screws them over. Also we don't have capitalism. Private companies working with the government(s) for their mutual benefit while oppressing the masses is called fascism. And mega corporations going down is good in the long term as it creates more competition.
