  1. The problem isn't that there will be fewer people as a whole. The problem is that there will be a lot more old, retired people than young working ones. If you think that raising children is expensive, wait until you have to take care of old retired people, be it directly or indirectly through taxation. Right now there are 2-4x working people per 1 retired person, but with the current birth rates in the future there will be 1x working person per 4-7x old retired people. With this being our future, only automation will solve it, otherwise we have to neglect the elderly.
