If folks found out that the Communist China government was scraping their computer and smartphone screens, and capturing everything that they are doing, they would have a $h!t fit. They would complain: "Why hasn't President Trump stopped this!" TikTok does just that, but on a lesser scale (but still quite invasive). Even Biden's campaign has banned TikTok for all of his staff, and all of the family members of his staff. The President is stopping a hostile, foreign adversary from maintaining a huge spy network across the youth of America. Put your partisan bickering aside, and understand that TikTok is a national security threat, and banning it is commensurate with the sworn duties of the Office Of The Presidency.

@Hobostarr180 , President Trump is banning the app. He is not banning the network. If you cannot use the app, then the network is meaningless. Or look at it this way: I have an app. It is named the "I_do_not_exist" app. Try using my "I_do_not_exist" app over VPN.

Yes, any app can be banned. Smartphone companies can either delete the apps from phones where it is installed, or push out an OS patch that will block existing installations of the app. Network providers can block the app from having network access. If it becomes law, or if the President Of The United States Of America signs an executive order, the app will be history.

All apps are at the mercy of the OS. If an app is banned, the programmers will update the OS to disable and/or delete the app. Please name an app that has been banned.

I am repeating what I wrote previously: Apps are at mercy of the OS. If the OS's kernel is coded to delete the app, or to disable the app, then the app will disappear or not function. Have you heard of cases where, after an OS upgrade, an app had problems? Have you heard of cases where you must be running OS version XYZ, in order for an app to be compatible? When your smart phone pulls in and installs a new OS, or a patch for the existing OS is applied, it will prevent TikTok from running. It will do so because it will be mandated by our government, and corporations will be compelled to issue the OS patch. With everything that computers can do, and that they do do, I do not understand why you think that TikTok, or any app, is immune to the code of the platform on which it runs.
