  1. What is the purpose (or function) of the 60 Hz that US power runs on? I know that my turntable's motor (yes, I play vinyl records) depends on an accurate 60 Hz from my utility company. And if the frequency does not remain constant, then neither does the rotational speed of my turntable. But I do not understand what Hz is. What if it was reduced to 30 Hz, or increased to 90 Hz? I know that my turntable would become functionally useless. But how would the change in Hz affect every other electrical device?
