  1. Like hell they can. Most popular forces only defeat a actual army if A) the army is busy fighting else where, and focus its forces on the insurgents B) the state in charge of the army is too broke, corrupt, or destroyed to mount any sort of COIN operation and C) popular forces usually need massive amounts of supports from outside national powers in to even attempt to fight the army and state. And that doesn’t even cover how poor terrain of the rural US is for insurgent style conflicts. Or the fact the insurgents wouldn’t operate unopposed anywhere in the country. In all likelihood, normal people would fight the insurgents as much as the state would. And the American civilian population is armed enough to give those traitors a real hard time.

  5. Neutrality can only be maintained with a nuclear arsenal to deter a war in the first place, as we’re finding out with Ukraine right now. Unless Taiwan gets nukes, neutrality will never be an option.
