  1. back when that was possible, you could program frequencies in the 6.125-meter band which were around 49 MHz and doing so would open the scanner for receiving cordless phones. I miss doing that though as phones have been moved off the 49 MHz funny band so around 5 gigahertz. plus, they now have security features that scramble the outgoing signal too. plus, in the United States it's also illegal to even listen to those transmissions hence why cordless phones have moved.

  3. I’m a hobbyist and I do a lot of scanning myself as well as SWLing. In the us, it’s not illegal in most areas to listen to police and fire communications. With that said, I have Beloit pd and fd frequencies programmed. The only time it’s illegal is if you’re doing it while committing a crime. Otherwise in most areas, there is no issue in scanning different wavelengths.

  6. When I ran a shoutcast stream, I never had dead air even though it was ran as an amateur radio broadcast station. And even though it was entirely online, it followed the same rules and schedule as commercial stations do. I even had a backup source of audio should dead air occur which was usually my hf radio fed into the sound card lol.

  7. lol, some hams don’t get it that you only call cq once, wait for a reply, and if not, don’t keep trying on that frequency for another 3 minutes. At the top of each hour and at the bottom of each hour, I observe a radio silence period of 5 minutes to allow distress transmissions because I’m a very considerate operator. Try it, you just might get quite a few friends, be a dick, and we just ignore you.

  8. The c crane skywave is another good radio. If you’re really interested in SSB reception, you can use a WebSDR to start out for free. But otherwise, the c crane skywave will work as well.

Before I got my license for ham radio, I did use to do a lot of scanning mainly for baby monitors and open key microphones as well as cordless telephones but then I got caught doing so and got a warning about the possibility of jail time. Since then though, I got my licenses for both ham and gmrs radio, and basically grew out of doing that crazy rude crap lol.

  14. there are five specific channels that are license-free here in the US. in the VHF band and those channels are limited to simplex line of sight, no repeaters, and the ERP is limited to 2 watts output and that service is known as the multiple-use radio service or MURS. it might be illegal in the UK though and I plan not to find out either lol. and the list of channels there is right above the two-meter ham band too, which over here is mainly used by CAP and the US government for tactical uses. this comes from a scanner hobbyist and ham radio operator,. follow the rules guys, and everything should be just fine. but if u have the money and time, u go right ahead and do ur bullshit freebanding, but... you WILL be heard, you WILL be found, you WILL be caught, and you WILL go to jail if not lose your radio equipment if not both!

  16. i have the whistler ws10470 handheld scanner, and it covers anywhere from 25.000 MHz all the way up to 1.3 Ghiz, although cell bands are blocked for obvious reasons. but it covers digital modes as well such as APCO phase i, and i think NXDN but I'd have to look at the menus on it, it also can cover am signals such as those found down on the 40 legal power CBRS channels too. it also can store up to like 37000 possible programable objects too and what i have programmed doesn't even covers that huge landscape of objects lol. I love the hobby of scanning too but guys, do it legally, i do it legally and have been for years now. yes, i use to scan cordless telecoms as a kid, but that is NOTHING compared to what this poor sod did. what he did sounds to me like it could involve charges of treason before the royal crown court. let';s hope he didn't face charges for even HAVING those frequencies in a scanner lol.

  19. Our police department doesn’t even share but license plate numbers, but they try to share that information by other means. Ems on the other hand now, they tend to share hippa protected information, plus they use p25 phase I/II encryption so analog scanners can’t decide the signals

I am mainly a ham, Murs, gmrs, and frs radio type person though. if you want free comms, get yourself a family radio service rig, gmrs rig, ham rig, or Murs rig,. it would be a neat thing to have though, if I could afford the plans lol.

  29. that particular receiver looks familiar, I have one in storage that was my stepdad's but b ecause everyone had gone digital, I can't use it anymore, and to tell you the truth, it had better sound then today's scanning receivers. I suppose if I wanted to, I could have it programmed to receive 10 of our local repeaters, but hell, what's the use, I have my new scanner that does everything all the way from CB receive all the way up to the 1.3 GHZ ham band, it covers EVERYTHING except of course cells. it'[s handheld too and with like thirty thousand slots, i could theoretically program all the state police hqs for every state but I'm not going to lol. the scanner I'm talking about is the ws1040 from the whistler group. plus, those, if you want to reprogram them, you couldn't without having to buy the specific rocks for the frequencies u wanted. where with today's radios, they have direct keypad entry,

  30. It is also prohibited by the FCC to even use amateur radio equipment near those big radio telescopes in order for scientific research to be conducted. It’s in part 97 of the FCC rules that if you want to operate there, permission must be granted before you can even squeeze the microphone key. I am a general class operator and I have done enough studying on the subject.

I'm a linseed ham radio and I'd never be stupid enough to even transmit there, let alone on any frequency other than ham freqs. yeah, i listen to them on my wideband scanners yeah, but I'd NEVER intentionally transmit on any frequency or ies not authorized by my general class license. not intentionally anyway. not even by accidently as I have no reason to transmit outside of the ham bands other than for MURS/FRS and even then, I use AUTHORIZED radios to transmit on those channels. never my Baofeng. I don't think the airports mind u listening there no, but they do know how to track you down should you make the mistake in mocking ATC, if you want to talk to me on the ham bands, great, just get your license first and we can do all the regchew in the world. all i ask though is please do not do what these stupid yobs did, it will get you jailed every time. good luck in getting your license too because the FCC won't grant you such privileges if you DO decide to jam radio services. just a heads up from a 20-year licensee on ham radio.

  32. the best way to get a radio station on air, is to use shout cast instead of taking chances with radio frequency broadcasting. I used to broadcast at 87.9 MHz on the FM dial under part 15 but the transmitter i used didn't last too long so I switched over to shout cast instead of putting money into something as small as that little transmitter. a lot of what i broadcasted though was of very little interest to those outside of the high school i worked for though so it really wasn't much lol.

  35. this repeater you guys are playing with sounds like it could be a cheap start to getting into managing a system, I use to own "still do" and run a cross band type system until squirrels decided to take over the damn site and use the antenna mast as their climbing ground to get up on top of the house. I still do have the mag mount antenna that was being used though so if I were to buy that model, it'd be easier to install, manage, and operate. a five-minute set up vs a twenty-minute hook up would really be a cool thing. and the range on it sounds like it could be an impressive range too.

  36. I use websdr for most of my hf monitoring but I also use a physical radio as well for am reception. I use mostly the whip antenna but I sometimes use a long wire connected to the tip via a pop can tab I affixed to the wire using just electrical tape and it seems to work fairly well for the design that I chose. I even use to do with tv antennas minus the pop can tab back in the analog days just so I could watch the brewers games out of Milwaukee Wisconsin via TMJ4 while living in South Beloit. On how I miss doing that. Digital tv is nowhere as easy to do that like analog. Lol.

Murs is an fcc sanctioned radio service for license free use by the general public and is limited to 2 watts with no limit on the use of different antenna types so long as you don’t get above 60 feet off the ground and 20 feet off of whatever structure it was mounted on. See fcc rules part 95 for details.

  45. mine was shitepoke, then it went from that to KSAY53511 for local comms and 2SAY53511 for dx comms since 2 is the prefix for America. my stepdad used fcc call sign KHL0506. then I got my ham license and my call sign went from KSAY53511 to KC9CPX. I got off cb also when it started to become a hotline for sluts to do their thing. radio just isn't meant for that anyway,

  46. if i was running that station and I found I could no longer keep it going, I would fight it with OFCOM, they'[re worse than the FCC when it comes to that kind of enforcement. I know of one station that went dark due to bankrupted, and that was WNFX fox radio 96.7 here in the united of states. that was way back in the eighties though and I highly doubt the FCC penalized them for going off air,. If you can't afford it, simply don't try to purchase it.

Certs, it’s also technically not legal to use it as a MURS radio but people do it anyway lol so basically,I contracted myself.

I do monitor there at times too, so if you do decide u want to try it, I'll get help figuring out your location, and we'll get law enforcement involved. I'm not yet a GMRS licensee no, and one day I plan on it too, but still, try it, see what happens, I guarantee you're not going to like the outcome when you DO try it though.

  55. the thing I'm getting out of this video is that those radios are similar in design to our frs gmrs units. the only difference is though that the freque4ncy band is different than what ours use. plus, over her you'd need a ham license "which I have e" in order to use them as the frequencies they use are in the 70 cm ham band. there are like 8 different channels those radios use too.

  74. It’s very similar to the United States gmrs. But we require a license to operating on the 8 input frequencies and on the 22 simplex channels if using more than 2 watts. Otherwise it is classed as FRS radio.

It’s legal in the USA AS LONG AS you don’t use the information you obtain to commit a crime, or as long as you don’t try to go to the location of the transmission taking place or as long you as a citizen do not respond to an ongoing investigation or any kind of emergency UNLESS you are authorized by law enforcement to do so. That’s the radio laws here in the United States. Hamm radio and FRS gmrs and murs in limited circumstances is exempt from such laws.
