At that time Colin Chapman completely overturned the design of F1 cars. He made them mid engined but the main thing was using the engine/gearbox as a part of the chassis. This hadn’t been done before and all F1 cars were front engine/rear drive. So a good part of the success Clark had was due to the cars.

@dryfesands1367 funny, the cars kept winning after his death. Clark was great but the best cars and team at the time helped.

@dryfesands1367 lotus at the time supplied about half the field of cars due to design. It just happened that they also had the best driver. After his death lotus continued to win with different drivers. He won Indi in a lotus, he won rally in a lotus cortina. Had he won in a standard cortina over the more powerful lotus version you can say it’s purely the driver but he was in the cars that were the pinnacle of development at the time. Hamilton dominated F1 in the Mercedes. The cars were unbeatable taking 1/2 in just about every race. Clark, the best driver in a lotus, the best car we’re just as unbeatable. The car is a factor, it’s undeniable.
