Michael Hedlund have any of you in europe ever looked to the usa as an example on how immigrants adapt? i know that its not considered cool right now to look to the usa as an example on how to do things but this is something that we have a lot more experience with. it is literally one of the things that we see ourselves as being is a nation of immigrants. from what i see, there is a common pattern of 1st to 4th generation of immigrants and beyond that. the first generation that don't speak english usually don't learn any or very little english. they usually live the rest of their lives poor and working the basic low paying jobs. the 2nd generation normally does a little bit better. they learn english at a young age and usually end up with a better skilled working class kind of job or else stay ahead of the curve and go to college and enter the middle class. they kind of feel like they are living in dual cultures too. the 3rd wave tends to think more like a "typical" american and they either learn a working class skill or they go to college or get a clerical job of some sort. the 4th wave tends to identify themselves as being as american as anybody who happens to have a bloodline tracing back to whichever country his/her ancestors came from. the same pattern holds true with irish and scottish immigrants except that they already knew english as their native language when they first arrived here. even asian immigrants hold to the same patterns as european immigrants. maybe it would just take time before the muslim immigrants start to identify themselves as being totally a part of your countries and their culture will mostly resemble all of you. maybe i'm comparing apples and oranges here and its different for all of you but still it is something to look at i would think.

TheToxicBone is that all? well then i guess ISIS is good then. lol. a better thing would be to not invade any countries and then force the inhabitants to abide by their sharia law or else die mercilessly. that would make them look better in my eyes.

TheToxicBone what he said is for the most part true. the crusades were a farce as far as them being about christendom. that was the excuse that was used to rally the illiterate peasant population to come and join the crusade but the powers that orchestrated it were all about the treasures and the looting. some of the basic foot soldiers for lack of a better word might have truly thought that they were on a religious quest to take jerusalem for jesus and christendom but they were duped as would be very easy to do to people back in those days. ISIS is kind of like these guys. the powers behind ISIS are about ultimately overthrowing the house of saud and installing a new caliphate. they use religious fervor to sway the simpletons to come and join them in their quest to take a large chunk of land and ultimately overthrow the house of saud. ISIS is also as old as when the house of saud became the rulers of saudi arabia on a side note.

Famas the usa and the old roman empire figured out ways of thriving while being multi-cultural countries. the usa has been a multi-cultural country from the very beginning as a matter of fact. you all might be able to apply a few things that we have always done that made it work for us. maybe the situations are too different and our model of assimilation won't work but it still seems worth looking into.

the world is a better place then it was in the 20th century. maybe in a few hundred years humans will have socially evolved to the point of there being no more war or poverty or racism. it's something to work towards even if we won't live long enough to see it.

Joella Z well there is falling in love and creating a family. that has always been the stalwart thing that has kept the human species moving forward and thinking ahead which has always been the thing that has moved us ahead throughout the history of homo sapiens.

every country has their share of inbred hillbillies. the world knows about ours now and now the rest of the world gets to learn about everybody else's version of inbred hillbillies.
