  10.  @savannahglebe5165  No, it is not. I taught for many years, pupils age 7 to 18, plus older. At no time, did I have problems with badly behaved children or teenagers for more than 2/3 days, who most other staff refused to teach. I know, what bad behaviour is. My classrooms were peaceful. I have a degree in Psychology as well as another degree in English literature. ( Just for context). When you know an autistic child, you’d notice that it actually isn’t, about them being “ undisciplined” or badly behaved. There are triggers, such as unexpected very loud noises. The same child will obediently line up if asked to, sit down when expected to with everyone else, work when expected to and enjoy what’s going on. Unco- operative, behaviour is different. Sensory differences, reactions to changes in routine and some, communication difficulties are typical of autism. In a calm, routine based environment, I didn’t see any, problems re discipline. When a child becomes very anxious, it’s not, an attempt to get away with something. What they react to, is pretty predictable. That doesn’t include listening, working or pleasant interaction. It helps to explain what’s going to happen, clearly, eg “ We’re going to go to the hall, sit on the floor, I’m going to play the piano and we’re going to sing. Then we’ll walk back to the classroom”. If 8/9 year olds in class with an autistic child can understand and interact thoughtfully, adults should be able to too. The other children did, pick up on how to do that. “ We’re going to …” etc. Just clear, quiet, brief, reassuring information. There are, a few disorders I don’t, agree about as being valid but autism, isn’t one of them.
