@yapper58 Equilibrium unemployment refers to zero cyclical unemployment, not structural. Unemployment is structural (which is never zero, even in Switzerland) plus cyclical plus frictional.

Since you mischaracterized it as a perfect world, it is not that unlikely.

@Paint-brigade1776 As I explained elsewhere, sport, keep your elbow up.

@yapper58 You are off by a factor of 70. It is only 100,000.

@Paint-brigade1776 Lean into the pitch. Don't put all your weight on your heels.

@yapper58 US Dept of Labor statistics.

@yapper58 Could be anosmia; see a doctor.

@yapper58 The odoriferous odor is likely coming from unsourced statistics that include retirees, stay-at-home parents, college students, incarcerated felons and children under the age of 18 in that 60% not participating in the workforce.

@yapper58 7 million is 40% of 18 million. I think that shows where the smell is coming from, sport. Keep swinging.

@yapper58 18M is derived from your arguments, using 5th grade math. I did not say 100K were unemployed; I said they have chosen to not participate - Table A.38 US Dept of Labor statistics. Table A-1 puts the unemployment rate at 4.1% - which is very close to structural unemployment and has nothing to do with people not having ambition nor living off of others, as you asserted earlier.

@yapper58 Table A-38.

@yapper58 There is no such thing as 'zero' structural unemployment. Wait a few years when you can take AP Economics.

@yapper58 Keep swinging, sport. The outfield fence only looks far away. You can do it.

@yapper58 Milton Friedman and Edmund Phelps received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1976 for their work that, in part, clarified "full employment" does not mean "zero unemployment". Zero employment only exists in totalitarian states where people work one job for their entire lives, from cradle to grave. Kind of like the Old South. Or the old Soviet.
