  1. Being Governor has no relationship to being a competent President. Of the 21 Presidents who had some state or territorial executive authority, there are 6 in each of the top 3 quartiles of presidential rankings. There are 3 in the bottom quartile, which only implies executive experience minimizes the chance they aren't a complete failure.

  2. It is false to assert independents decide elections. Saying 90 percent of the outliers always votes for the same party is not precisely true; it is not the SAME 90%. And to imply that 'true' independents vote as a unified block is just irrational. For example, the 'independents' did not elect Reagan; long-standing but disaffected Democrats did (being disaffected is not the same as being an Independent). Same with Trump in 2016. And Kennedy won on the strength of new voters; again, that is not what an Independent is.
