There’s some debate as to what this song’s about. It’s pretty clear to me: It’s about coming out as gay. Letting the person you were trying to be die and embracing who you really are. Struggling with how people around you and society react to that, how you feel from being conditioned for so long into a heteronormative world, and apathetic and depressive sense of futility this brings you. It’s quite a sad song really. Having the choice between being someone that you’re not and being accepted by those around you, or being true to yourself and being rejected by society.
