Well done for not bowing to the pressure other drivers put on you, and following the law. It takes guts for someone as young and new to driving as you not to be bullied into doing something dangerous to appease angry road users. Top marks.

Is it also worth saying that the car behind is illegally sounding their horn? You are not allowed to sound your horn in anger/frustration and you’re also not allowed to sound your horn when your car is stationary.

This is helpful to know. I was leaving work one day and it was about 9:15pm. Unbeknownst to me, someone with whom I worked had climbed up onto the windowsill of a bank on the high street. I had seen this person around, but I didn't really know them. They just worked for the same company as me. So I was walking, unaware of this when a police officer ran up to me and shouted in my face "Don't dick about!". As this had come out of left-field, I was unaware of what was going on which seemed to annoy the officer more and more. I wasn't even sure what 'dick about' meant. After a while, it became clear what was going on and I told the office that this was nothing to do with me. The police officer demanded I give him my name and address. He told me that because I worked at the same company as this guy, I was responsible for his actions. I'm not sure that's quite right, but I gave him my correct name and address anyway as I hadn't done anything wrong (and I was quite intimidated by him and his aggressive tone). I've questioned whether I handled this incident correctly over time, so it's good to know that I did the right thing.
