@williamt.sherman9841 Tank dos have another meaning you know. As in large metal box that flots on or is used to contain liquiid or gas. Get a life.

Give a bootneck three musket balls. Half hour later, ones lost , ones eaten, the other is pregnant.

The hulls were cheap the guns not. So build a tank to float the guns on. It won't be going anywhere without a heavy escort

No powder is safe. Mix any fine dust with air, add flame, boom. I worked at a soft drink factory, that had bulk tanker delivery of fine sugar. First job on arrival. Earth the tanker!!! Just as you would with a fuel or gas tanker.

sgfhk321 Both had very distingushed carrers as Scinetific Vessels. Micheal Palin's Book Erebus is very good.

@Charon-5582 My mother would throw a handful of sugar on a lazy fire, it would promptly flare up.

A number of points. At this time the main aim was to captuire an enemy ship, get it home and it and any cargo would be sold by the Prize Agents, and you got your share . Howitzer and Mortars are completly diffrent weapons systems. Case and Carcase were loaded, fuse down unlit. The deflagration and or radiant heat of the proppellant lit the fuse. Carcase was used to fire at rigging . A small hole in a sail , bearing in mind the pressure on a sail when a ship is motion can be masured in tons per square yard, leads to rips. Landridge shot was a specifie form of shot using bars of iron bundled not balls. Any thing down the barrel, was known as Junk Shot. Two of the Royal Navy's last Bomb Ketchs are very famous , they were modified speciffically because of their massive structural strenght, as Polar Exploration vessels. They were called HMS Erebus and HMS Terror.

Sink the Spanish Galleon? Are you out of your mind, where the profit in that? Clobber the crew, put a Prize crew on sail it home, and we're in the Money! More British sailors at Trafalgar were crying over the loss of prize money when the captured ships sank in a storm following the battle than over the death of Nelson.

You should have added that She is the only Royal Naval Ship to shell the United Kingdom as an act of war. hen She shelled Alderney in 1944.

@WALTERBROADDUS No but could be sold into servici. Nelson's first ship Foudraient was just such a French Frigate. The rules were any one who was a ship that captured a Prize was in for a cut. There were far more tears shed by Jack after Trafalgar due to the sinking of prizes taken in the following storm than the death of Nelson.

@111doomer But the rule was , anybody on board a ship taking a prize got a cut,and the Admiral of the Station, of course the higher up the order the bigger the cut. If Iremember correctly it was HMS Cossack taking Altmark was the last time prize money wa spaid, and the Cutlass used as a boarding weapon. A lot of Grand English Houses were built on Spanish and French Gold.

Kid friendly? No kids don't spend money. The idea was to 'Create a space that could be used for Comercial Media Events'. Same happned to IWM.

But most paintings still show Ensigns streaming backwards, hey folks ! On a sailing ship the wind normally comes from behind, so which way will the rag blow?

Mortars are designed to fire at a trajectory of +45 degrees. So no carriage is viable, therefore you have a Base Plate , direct contact with surface to absorb recoil. Two Bomb Ketchs, which wer ethe last of there type, had second very famous carrers , speciffically because of thier heavy build, they wer eused for polar exploration HMS Erebus and HMS Terror.
