I have never heard of this incident. An intresting paralle is the later Morocan Crisis of 1905 and 1911. Seems to set a pattern.

@michaelpielorz9283 There are plenty of scources, including the World Famous' Everyone Knows'. Reffered to in Britain as The Man in the Pub. The fun of histiory, and current affairs, sorting out the greys from the posted Black & White.

@AnimeOtaku2 Very true, the genisis of the war goes back a long way.It was just that in 1914 , for a really bizzare set of reasons, the cards all fell over. Be intresting to see the THG's take on why it happned. One of the best explinations I've ever seen , is rather oddly, the start of the Film Oh What A Lovley War. I'd recommend it.

But, it could have started ealier. The Moracan Crisisi of 1905 and 1911. Seems this incident, which I'd never heard of before, set a German Precedent. Though it normally considered a British Empirical saying 'Send a Gunboat'.

@Nightcrawlerfive Even the British fell over in suprise when Zimmerman camly announced , yes I sent it. There are actually two telegrams. The story of the British finding it in Mexico is a lie. One of the first actions of Britian was to cut the German trans atlantic telegraph wires, so everything came through Britian. Trouble was 'Gentlemen don't read each others mail' So we couldn't state out right, we 've hacked your cables, and brocken your diplomatic codes. By the way we also can read the German Traffic which they are sending over your US diplomatic wires, which the US couldn't. Now of course the US Goverment is not allowed to monitor US telecomms! So they get us to do it where the cables come ashore in Cornwall.

I still start any journey with an adage whacked into me as a kid on the Island Of Jersey . We'll go sailing 'God and Weather Permitting'

Being faced with Large Bills, thanks to us British saying Bye Bye to the EU. If asked why I voted out, one reason , All Empires end in time.

@JohnyG29 There are records in the National Libary of Congress, that show an American desire to breack up the British Empire , particullaly from India , as part of thier 2nd World War aims. Don't forget there also exist plans to invade Canada. should Britiain have fallen.

Go to the villiage of Vimy now. The monumentsand stauteus make it very clear that Canadians captured the villiage. It is often stated that the Canadian's were Sacrificed at Vimy. The truth is they were there at the time, and were very very good, that's why . They were know to Dig a good hole, and they were handed the largest shovel.
