No. Hackney is probably derived from a French term Hacquienee, roughly horse for hire. First coming into use around the 14th century. At that time the English court still tended to use French. As for the Association with London Taxis, the black variety being licsened by the London Cab and Carriage Office still being called Hackney Cabs, was first established in 1662. Amongst other things to qualify as a London Hackney Cab the vehicle must, be able to allow a 6 foot man to be seated, whilist still wearing his Top Hat, and . for centuries the cab had to have a bale of hay in the back. The term has also become associated with a horse that has a 'High Action'. When trotting the fore leg is raised so the upper part is almost horizontal.

And! Don't forget the joy of twenty minutes of squealing cassette tape ! Just as you got your hopes up. The tape slipped and , you started all over again, and again and again.

Yes, as a Hacquenee, was an old French term for a Horse for Hire, used for travelling. Also a high actioned horse! Of the type favoured to draw horse drawn cabs. PS if you don't know it the London Bourough of Hackney--- dosen't have the highest of reputations.

No HAN-son cabs. a two wheeled horse drawn veichle to patent by a Mr Hanson. Though in London associated with being drawn by a single Hackney horse. 😁
