  1. A more practical reason for using older ships like USS Texas and the 1916 Monitor HMS Erebus as land bombardment, both of which were at Normandy, was they wern't much use for anything else. In a pure Naval role there were better equipped more reliable vessels. If an old ship beaches or get damaged, no real loss. Keeping this is mind, the crews must have been superb. Keeping an old ship going in a battle zone, fuffilling all missions asked of them,.

  2.  @minuteman4199  True, but a working boat , it takes a toll. In Wartime especially the rescourses are stretched. The original builders must have done a hell of a job for the Bean Counters to consider spending anything on her.
