  2. Just prior to WW2 the German's used Zeppilins to try elint warfare aginst British Chain Home and Chain Home low radar stations. The story goes the Britsh operators were appaled by German Navigation and had to be stricly told , No!! You may not radio to them thier actual posiitions.

  3. Another little known operation, is the Second Dunkirk, Operation Ariel. As for barrage ballons, they wern't always deflated before moving. Some poor bloke who had upset the Filght Sargent had the ballon hitched around his waist and told march! The stories of Erk's (RAF Ground Crew) being blown for miles are legion. They is also a famous shot of a Ballon attached to LST's at Goldbeach in Normandy. For the 70th Anniversary of D-Day a modern replica was flown. Just as the whole three day Remeberance got hit with high winds :-( I can attest they are complete &^%%&* to do anything with if the wind hits them.
