Please note. Jersey cattle do not have a high yeild , they do produce a high butterfat content 4.9% and protien 3.7% . As the original home of the breed is a little rock 9 miles long by 5 wide (Gets bigger when the tide goes out) they are a very economic to feed , there isn't much room on Jersey and tradition was to tether the cows.Also at the time being a Closed Herd, no animal or semen was allowed to be imported a Jersey bred Jersey was disiase free. Onedrawback, the Cows are docile easy tomanage animals, . The bulls on the other hand have a reputation of being right little sods. They are a Dairy Breed, there have been attempts to create cross breeds for dual purpose (Milk & Beef) but have never really been succesful.

The National Anthemn of Jersey Channel Islands is supposed to be based on the Lowing of a Jersey Cow. At its inaugural performance at the Anuual Liberation Day parade a few years back I remarked to a friend 'If I heard a cow making a noise like that I'd shoot it'. @Pridegriffin I sang in the School Choir (Many, many , many years ago). My Mother, inspired so she said, joined the local Women's Institute choir. Came home after first rehersal in High Dudgeon. Later turned out the Choirmistress had said 'Yes, maybe ... it would be better if you just.. open and shut your mouth in time to the music?'
