The cunumdrum was, The Nazis took a disorgansied , demoralised country, and built up a working cohesive society, when many of the Great Powers were in Depprsion. Devil is in the deatil, but given the greater World attitudes at the time, America for instance was the leading proponet of Eugenics, and resented loosing the title to Germany, Britian still distrusting France and Russia, if Hitler had stopped in 1938/9 at the Sudetenland, things would be a lot diffrent. WE , at least in this period are working from 100% hindsight, and social and moral attitudes that developed because of it.

  9. I disagree, History is, I can't see how this Glorifys the woman, more shows her to be a priviliged spoilt brat with to much time on her hands. I would suggest that a number of the agitators well known today have the same sort of background. Notice once one rises to the top of the heap it becomes Policy to remove interllectuals? Doing away with the rivals.

  12. Violence feeding violence. The Black & Tans came about as a response to Nationalist violence, and the whole lot fell off the edge of the catastrophe curve. the end result being both sides 'Causes' being perverted to Organised Crime. Neither side can afford peace.

  13.  @williamMcsweeney2024  There had been progress towards Independence.The Great War was a major distraction. The treatment of those of Irish descent that joined the British Army is a story intself. There wasa Group from my Home Jersey that joined and were part of the 7th Royal Irish Rifles.

  18.  @warbler1984  To your valid point Colm. The people Ireland, other than the North, were fighting for freedom through the Ballot Box. Given the Great War put a whole skew on things it may well have lead to an all Ireland settelment. Though if you going to fight at least be old enough to make an informed decision.
