Legend has it that Bees were used against war Elephants . A swarm would be trapped in a basket or sack and thrown at the Elephant. Modern research appears to back this up as the positioning of bee hives along feild boundaries is an effectie detterent for wild elephants.

This is the only clip on Youtube I've ever found that describes the correct way to use a ramrod!

Now this is the type and quality of content that the Royal Amouried should produce. It is a World Class Centre of Excellence in y weapons , please spead your knowledge about

I stone = 14 pounds. = 6.35 kg. Still used colloquilly to describe a person weight. So 7 stone is 98lbs (Pounds weight) or about 44.5 kgs.

It's the army! Don't expect the Goverment to lash out on the latest weapons do you?
9
Why? There are much better things to spend the public's money on. Besides you have enough Sterlings surley? Not to mention C96

As made famous in Man From U.N.C.L.E. as the T.H.U.RU.S.h. gun. By the way, your a better presenter.

The 'Original' Enfeild P14 was in .303. The rifle was adapted to 30.06

Why publish films of such bloody awful quality? The Royal Amouries is supposed to be a world class musuem, collection.

What an excellent presentation by a person with knowledge and presence. Not a note in sight, very proffesional work. Other presenters on the channel shoukld take lessons.

I've looked a lot, and invaribly the Muppet puts his palm over the ram rod.

The rifle was based on the Enfeild P14 in .303 . The Britsh Army were looking at a new cartridge following the South African Boer war, and the performance of the Mauser. The Enfeild .276 cartridge came to naught but a rifle Pattern 1913 was developed. When the Great War broke out the P13 was updated , as it was easier to produce than the SMLE and became pattern 1914. Then as there was no capacity in UK, the Americans were approached. Winchester, Remington and Eddeystone Remington took on contracts. Due to supply and cash flow the British Goverment paid for machine tools and upfront costs some $21,000,000 . The rifles were then built between 1916 and 1917. By that time SMLE production was up so the P14 was second standard or occasionally issued as a sniper rifle in late 1917. The production lines stood idle. When the US came into the war in 1917 there was only the Springfeild Arsenal turning out the Springfeild 1903 the Standard US rifle, and the US were short of rifles. The P14 proved adaptable to the American 30.06 cartridge so the British sold the production lines to the US for about $9,000,000. The result was the Enfeild M1917 (Always the full date) became the most issued rifle in US service.

I have a number of pistols on the table. What table? The Royal Amouries really need to get thier act together. Some videios are great some like this are so amatuer it is cringeworthy.

Who cars? They are useless bits of fantasy rubbish which PUBLIC money is being spent on. There are charities out there that could have used the money to improve lives.

If someone doesn't know they ask, so what? Better be thought a fool for asking than proved to be one for not. There is also the colloquial use of language which may not be obvious.

N Hosto: Bully for you. American use of tons is diffrent from British Imperail tons, same with liquid measurments, can cause many problems, so don't sneer if someone asks a sensible question.
1
At least know what you are going to say. You looking down at notes all the time makes this impossible to watch.

Soon to be banned! So what now for the Royal Amouries ?

There are more places than Leeds, try The Wallace Collection in collection, that is just pure art , and especially Fort Nelson at Portsmouth, they have the really Big Boys Toys down there, includding the Mallet Motar.
1
Soory Guys! Wallace collection is in London.

No it's a relief.
