Man City have incredible squad depth, they literally keep a second XI on the bench with players to match their starting XI. But Arsenal are punching well above their weight, kinda like last year. Last year the target was to secure European football and Arsenal ended up competing for top 4 and only narrowly missing out largely due to injuries to their key players (like Partey and Tierney). This year the target was to secure top 4, and we are doing that and then some. Even if Arsenal don’t win the league, this would be some campaign. I can’t remember the last time our club’s management, players, and fans were in total harmony. After all, our motto is Victoria Concordia Crescit (victory comes from harmony). It’s been an absolute joy to watch us play, something to look forward to eagerly every week. This team is the youngest in the league, the club is continuing to make smart buys in the market (Trossard, Jorginho, Kiwior), and with further reinforcements in the summer there’ll be plenty to look forward to. COYG!

This idea that cost cap is a deterring rest of the teams from catching up is such a lame excuse initiated by those who are incompetent and have no idea what they’re doing (*cough* Mercedes *cough*). Two teams with the biggest year over year pace improvement that turned up at Bahrain were two of Mercedes’ customer teams - Aston Martin and Williams. Fernando Alonso has dominated first half of the season behind the two Red Bulls this year, while Williams have scored more points this year than they did in last 4-5 years. Another Mercedes customer team that has made huge strides through this season are McLaren. All three teams - Aston Martin, McLaren, and Williams operate at a lower budget compared to big three (Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull Racing), while Williams don’t even have the necessary facilities required to build a quick race car, and yet all three teams have outperformed the works Mercedes team on pure merit on multiple occasions this season. Mercedes have brought upgrades at almost every racetrack this season, and are yet to show any race winning pace compared to Red Bull Racing and Ferrari, even Aston Martin that could’ve won at Monaco or Zandvoort.
Forget the idea of making F1 sustainable for a second and think about this - if Red Bull Racing indeed got the fundamental design right, in the absence of cost cap, what’s preventing them from throwing large sums of money to make sure they bring the best upgrades to the track, and build an even bigger gap over rest of the field?
Rant over.

@FZ-akdfu I don’t think 1 additional assist or an improvement of 1% in passing accuracy is statistically significant to warrant a player being objectively better than the other. Maybe objectively ever so slightly a better playmaker, considering the nature of that metric. If you really want to learn statistical analysis, read up on confidence level.
I originally wrote, “Rice has objectively matched Rodri this season” - in g/a, passing %, big chances created - those are box-to-box traits of a holding midfielder. On the defensive traits, Rice is miles ahead of Rodri, based on far superior tackles, successful interceptions, less times dispossessed, and half the number of yellow cards than Rodri and no red card.
Besides improving your understanding of statistical significance, perhaps an improvement in reading comprehension is needed. That, or maybe your IQ is the same number as your age. Either way, I think I’ve made my point.

-
@FZ-akdfu Unlike you, I don’t present opinions, I present facts backed up by data, which is exactly what I’ve done in this thread. Literally any reputable publication you choose describes a defensive midfielder’s key traits as tackling, interceptions, and passing.
From Wikipedia -
“Defensive midfielders are midfield players who focus on protecting their team's goal. These players may defend a zone in front of their team's defence, or man mark specific opposition attackers. A good defensive midfielder needs good positional awareness, anticipation of the opponent's play, marking, tackling, interceptions, passing and great stamina and strength (for their tackling).”
As I said earlier, pick any key metric that a DM is judged on, and Rice has more than matched Rodri on most and exceeded on some. Have a good one, buddy.
2
-
@FZ-akdfu Sure, Palinha has same number of interceptions as Rice and more successful tackles than Rice and Rodri. Which is why he’s being linked with Europe’s top clubs. But overall, as DM, Rice is objectively better than Rodri (better defensive stats like dispossessed %, tackles, successful interceptions, less yellow/red cards and equal attacking stats like passing % and g/a), and better than Palinha in attacking stats (like passing % and g/a) while matching Palinha in some defensive stats (both had 43 interceptions so far in PL this season with Palinha having higher successful tackles and Rice having best dispossessed % among all 3 DMs).
Yet you still want to use headers, take ons, and wins as metrics to put Rodri above Rice (without presenting actual data, unlike me), and still call me as someone who lacks football knowledge lmao. You can have your opinion, but the fact is: Rice has objectively been the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League this season. And again, he’s just getting started.
