I'm Chinese so I only tell what I see through my angle. why Sino-Soviet split after Korean war, because Soviet wanted to treat the same to China like US to NATO and Japan, China doesn't want to be military colony for Soviet empire like Eastern Europe, Sino-Soviet split is same reason like Tito–Stalin Split. why Japan lost trade war financial war with US in 1980s, it just because Japanese elites can't really fight back if US army controling your politics. UK is a small power now, so UK can follow US leading, but EU is also a rising superpower, will US let EU becomes superpower? will US let Euro replace US dollar hegemony?will US accept EU army? EU UK can be ally of US as long as you are small and obedient, not a threat to US hegemony, how about one day EU doesn't want to listen to US if US policy is against EU interest? can EU still has independence? US never accepts Russia in NATO, because Russia is still too big, not because Russia is communist before.
