@limitlessinmind well, then let's study some history.
Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty
Article 2
It is recognized under Treaty of Peace with Japan signed at the city of San Francisco, Japan has renounced all right, title and claim to Taiwan and Penghu as well as Spratly Islands and Paracel Islands.
Today, PRC Beijing claims a 9-dash line, and ROC Taiwan claims an 11-dash line. Because ROC claimed the South China Sea Islands in 1945, The US gave warships to the ROC navy, so Chinese could control Taiping Island, Thitu Island, Triton Island, and Woody Island in 1946, then The Kuomintang government (KMT) in Nanjing drew an 11-dash line in 1947 with the acquiescence of the West and the Soviet Union, At that time, all Southeast Asian countries were Western colonies, and no one objected, so the Chinese believe this is the order of World War II.
Why did the West let ROC take over and control the South China Sea islands after the Japanese troops withdrew? Because ROC was the only Asian country that persisted in resisting Japan to the end, all Southeast Asian countries and colonial armies surrendered in 1942, KMT/CCP eliminated more fascists by paying huge casualties, so South China Sea was given to the Chinese as spoils of war by the international community.
PRC government inherited ROC government's all claim after Chinese Civil War 1949,
PRC canceled 2 dash-line from 11 dash-line after Mao Zedong gave Bach Long Vi island to Ho Chi Minh in 1957,
North Vietnam supported PRC's claim in Spratly and Paracel Islands 1958,
After South Vietnam navy landed in Paracel islands, PLA defeat and killed 100+ South Vietnam soldiers and retook Paracel Islands in 1974, North Vietnam used to support PRC's claim even sided with PRC in Battle Of Paracel Island.
After North Vietnam unified South Vietnam with CCP support, Vietcong also inherited South Vietnam's claim and landed some Spratly islands, Vietcong thought they have Soviet's support, then Vietcong expelled Boat people Chinese minority, also signed military treaty with Soviet in 1978.
Because there was no modern border between ancient China and ancient Vietnam, and colonial history made the border more complicated, China and Vietnam have never drawn a borderline, When the political relationship between the CCP and Vietcong was hostile, so the Viet Cong no longer recognizes the inherently blurry traditional border, resulting in numerous border conflicts.
Then PLA hit and run, killed 100,000+ Viet Cong soldiers, militiamen, civilians with real cannon, armed Khmer Rouge guerrillas against Vietcong occupation in Third Indochina War 1979-1991, At the same time, Deng Xiaoping also armed Maoist mujahideen in Afghanistan against the Soviet occupation.PLA navy also killed 64 Viet Cong soldiers and retook Johnson South Reef Spratly Islands in 1988.

Someday, there will be parity and I wonder how the Chinese are going to react when the shoe is on the other foot? so You forgot the old days?
When the U.S. Seventh Fleet intervened in the Chinese Civil War and prevented the CCP from pursuing ROC across the Taiwan Strait, the U.S. military also landed in Incheon and bombed Chinese border villages. the industrial output value of the United States was a hundred times that of the PRC In 1950. Why did the United States not attack the CCP with Water cannon on Chinese border? But it doesn't matter, we didn't cry but resisted Van Fleet's ammunition and drove the UN troops back to the 38th line.
Later, we supported the Viet Cong against France and the United States, Western Bamboo Curtain. The United States dropped more bombs in Vietnam than during World War II combined. Why didn't the United States use water cannons but Agent Orange against Vietnam? Later, we fought against India's forward policy in 1962 and retaliated against the Soviet Union's encirclement in 1969. We never cried like a child because we lacked firepower, our response is to fight.
After South Vietnam navy landed in Paracel islands, PLA defeat and killed 100+ South Vietnam soldiers and retook Paracel Islands in 1974, that's when South Vietnam was still in SEATO, North Vietnam used to support PRC's claim even sided with PRC in Battle Of Paracel Island
After North Vietnam unified South Vietnam with CCP support, Vietcong inherited South Vietnam's claim and landed some Spratly islands, Vietcong expelled Boat people Chinese minority, also signed military treaty with Soviet in 1978, then PLA killed 100,000+ Viet Cong soldiers, militiamen with real cannon, armed Khmer Rouge against Vietcong in Third Indochina War 1979-1991, PLA navy also killed 64 Viet Cong soldiers and retook Johnson South Reef Spratly in 1988.
We used to not so talkative with sovereignty issue, Now you think water cannons are too deadly, so what do you expect us to use?

Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty
Article 2
It is recognised that under Article 2 of the Treaty of Peace which Japan signed at the city of San Francisco on 8 September 1951 (hereinafter referred to as the San Francisco Treaty), Japan has renounced all right, title, and claim to Taiwan (Formosa) and Penghu (the Pescadores) as well as the Spratley Islands and the Paracel Islands.
So both PRC and ROC considered 11-dash line is WWII order, but USA can't even tell his puppet ROC Taiwan to give up 11dashline first,
then you guys think PRC would listen to USA under pressure, right?
Anyway, When you say the PRC is aggressive, then you must mean ROC is aggressive too, because PRC copied same claim from ROC after 1949,
Taiwan looks not aggressive because Taiwan is too small and weak, not because Taiwan doesn't want to take back mainland and those lost islands in South China Sea
but Taiwan's ROC constitution is aggressive like Taiwan gave up Mongolia in 1990s,
CCP hit UN forces 1950-53
CCP armed Vietcong against France 1950-54
CCP armed North Vietnam against USA 1954-75
CCP hit ROC 1958-79
CCP hit India 1962 1967
CCP hit Soviet 1969
CCP hit South Vietnam 1974
CCP hit Vietcong 1979-91
CCP armed Khmer Rouge against Vietcong 1978-91
CCP armed mujahideen against Soviet 1979-89
Doesn’t the CCP seem very aggressive? In fact, it is retaliatory. This is the CCP’s counterattack against the anti-communist bamboo curtain from the United States and the anti-China encirclement from the Soviet Union.
After the end of the Cold War, the weak Russia was unable to contain the PRC, and the confident United States felt that the CCP would collapse. Do you think the PRC has been very peaceful in the past 30 years? If there is no superpowers that can oppress the Chinese, then the CCP naturally does not need to stand up and resist the nonexistent slave owners. Can’t you understand such simple logic? But if there is a superpower that wants to oppress the Chinese again, then the CCP will definitely resist your slavery regime.
the United States forms Bamboo Curtain 2.0 on the Chinese border again, trying to turn Taiwan into the Cuba of Asia, the Philippines into another Ukraine, even the Viet Cong may become new South Vietnam, then You will you see aggressive CCP in Ukraine, Israel, Cuba.
