Ironically the US navy even lent 8 warships to the Chinese ROC navy, then the 4 ROC navy warships landed on Taiping Island, Thitu Island, Triton Island, Woody Island and set up stone tablets in 1946, then the ROC Kuomingtang regime drew 11-dash line in 1947. Today, the pro-West, anti-communist, democratic ROC Taiwan still claims 11-dash line since 1945 until today, Taiwan still controls Taiping island and Dongsha island right now, you better check how far those islands from Taiwan. PRC Beijing just inherited same 11-dash line claim from the ROC after Chinese Civil War 1949, Mao Zedong was largest sponsor to Ho Chi Minh in the First Indochina War and the Second Indochina War against French colonists and American imperialist, so the CCP generously gave Bach Long Vi Island to North Vietnam then PRC changed from 11-dash line to 9-dash line for monitoring US reconnaissance aircraft in 1957, ironically the North Vietnam used to support PRC's claim on Paracel islands and Spratly islands like North Vietnam supported the PRC in fighting South Vietnam navy during the Battle of Paracel 1974, but the Viet Cong under Le Duan regime broke Ho Chi Minh's promise and became more pro-Soviet anti-Chinese in late Cold War, then a strong, ambitious, unified communist Vietnam started to claim same as the South Vietnam regime claimed on Paracel islands and Spratly Island after reunification in 1975 because Le Duan didn't need Deng Xiaoping's aids anymore, Le Duan began to exclude Chinese minority aka the Boat People, then signed a military alliance with the Soviet Union, and caused more conflicts on undemarcated borderline then caused Sino-Vietnamese 12-years Conflicts during Third Indochina War 1978-1991, more ironically the Viet Cong has become pro-American today, Chiese must regret to Bach Long Vi gift to Vietnamese, maybe the CCP will restore the 11-dash line and take back Bach Long Vi if Viet Cong became another S.Vietnam in the Fourth Indochina War, Just like when Khrushchev gave Crimea to his little brother Ukraine, today Putin has taken Crimea back from the enemy.
But why did the international community led by the West and the Soviet Union let Chinese not others to control South China Sea after WWII? When Chinese claimed the South China Sea islands in 1945, British Malaya, American Philippines, French Vietnam, Dutch Indonesia, all Southeast Asian countries were Western colonies in 1945. Therefore, when the colonial masters gave the South China Sea as a gift to the best friend the ROC Kuomingtang, the Southeast Asians as slaves couldn't and didn't oppose ROC's 11-dash line claim. International practice is that whoever claims or occupies uninhabited island first, if no countries really objects then this is whose territory, or you can get territory through treaty after war. The document given by the Chinese is that in the Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty, Japan gave up Taiwan, Penghu, the Spratly Islands and the Paracel Islands to ROC after WWII, Today Taiwan still possesses the original copy of that treaty. So from a Chinese perspective, the South China Sea should be a dispute between the PRC and the ROC.
So why did the United States gave the South China Sea to ally Chinese instead of the ally Filipino? Because The post-war order is always decided by the winners according to contributions during the war, usually the big contributors can distribute the spoils, because ROC suffered tens of millions of casualties, KMT/CCP wiped out more Japanese than all of Southeast Asia combined, the Chinese persisted against Japan until fascist surrendered in 1945, but all Southeast Asians and Western colonial troops didn't resist long enough but surrendered to Japan in 1942 in Southeast Asia. Therefore, the ROC is the only independent country in Asia that made the greatest contribution until the end of World War II. That’s why the international community has acquiesced in ROC's claims to the South China Sea, The ROC used tens of thousands of tons of bloodshed to obtain Taiwan, Manchukuo, and the 11-dash line. If you don't pay more cost, do you just want to use propaganda war to force the Chinese to give up? Of course you have to sacrifice more to rewrite new world order.

They describe China as an aggressor that changing the international to win over Southeast Asian countries, especially the Philippines and Vietnam, to contain China.
