Yes, you are your own people, but giving away land implies that you would not be part of the country or something like that. It's just this type of language that feels like people are trying to push you into being less American or something like that, and it scares me that people would talk like that. It's so insane that that guy looked at the footage and figured that the footage of two armed white guys chasing and cornering an unarmed black guy and shooting him in broad daylight would somehow ease the situation. How can anyone think that people would look at this footage and conclude that these two guys would probably be in the right?

  13. @Christian Mora Alright, I've searched for footage and I see some instances of people doing wrong things. I also see footage of police attacking reporters, federal agents beating on an unarmed navy veteran and the mayor of Portland saying that the federal officers beating up and arresting unarmed people are unwelcome and breaking people's fundamental rights in just being there, let alone abducting people. So yes, the things you're saying are happening are happening. But the police has decided to label anyone on the streets as their enemy and they're actively hurting peaceful protesters as much as the criminals. This isn't how police should ever behave anywhere. I've heard a good quote a number of years back that if you blur the line between police and army, common civilans are going to end up being labeled the enemy. That's exactly what we see here. So you're correct that some of the things that are happening are criminal and should be dealt with. It's just that the amount of force and violence currently being used by the police is outside of all proportions.

  17. I think you could actually make a good case based on the law that anyone who owns a gun intends to kill someone. That's literally the only reason to own a non-hunting gun. (EDIT: not really related to the main topic of the video, but it was an interesting thought to me)

  22. Objection: psychopathy is a specific illness that causes people to hear and see things that aren't there. It's not a condition of violence. Calling these men psychotic could only lead to seeing them as less responsible for their actions if they were suffering from a medical condition like psychopathy. If at all possible, try to avoid the term in the future to avoid raising the stigma against the condition.

  28. @Christian Mora If you truly think that's what's happening out there, you are so completely divorced from reality that you might as well live on a different planet from the rest of us. Have you not seen the footage of police officers beating down unarmed protesters? Have you not seen the footage of squads of incognito people who might or might not be police, abducting people in the street? Yes, there are a few people rioting, but the police is using it as an excuse to savagely beat down law-abiding citizens with actual weapons, some of which have literally been banned from being used in international conflict because they're inhumane. How could anyone ever be okay with the police attacking innocent civilians because there are some other civilians who are misbehaving?

It's a collection of individuals that oppose fascism. It's true that there are some that are peaceful and some that actively try to irritate the fascists, and some of them are actively looking to make the fascists angry enough to start a fight, but AntiFa doesn't start the fights. They antagonize and let the fascists strike first. That's the whole strategy. I don't know if you're misled or you're one of the fascists you is trying to set people against AntiFa so that you can be a fascist in peace, but either way, you're wrong and you're dangerous.

  37. It's really insane how much power is concentrated in so few institutions. The fact that the senate basically chooses the supreme court is a completely corrupt idea and gives the senate a huge amount of control over the entire political system by removing the safeguards placed on it. The USA is so completely broken that it's going to take a long, long time to fix even the basics.

  39. Don't forget: Hitler was defeated the first time he tried to burn down the state too. He was imprisoned after a similar stroke and ended up being the most visible dictator in the history of the world. This might not be over, we have to be ready for whatever the nationalist movement might be planning next. Most importantly: we should try to get the Trumpists in the conversation and make them part of the solution. If they feel 'othered' too much, they will only radicalize more.

  40.  @djangofett4879  It's honestly a spectrum. We only see the ones that are completely brainwashed and gone. There are millions though who are on the fence and can still see reason if they are not excluded from society just for 'being on the wrong side' I return to my example of Germany. After the first world war Germany was given the blame for everything and destroyed for it. The result was resentment, anger and the second world war. After the second world war, the other countries had learned their lesson and actually worked with Germany to build it up and maks sure it prospered. The end result is that Germany is now one of the beacons of hope in the free world. I'm not saying that we have to try to save the ones that can't be saved. I'm only saying that the only way to actually move forward is by helping the people who feel left out in the cold to have hope again. If Biden is actually going to be a president for everyone, he might actually start to heal the wounds of these people and give new hope to the nation. I'm skeptical of course, but I can be both skeptical and hopeful at the same time.
