  1. He’s right culture is important, but he’s really overestimating how much impact on the culture government messaging can have. For example China had the most extreme antinatalist policy, yet Taiwan had no such policy and their fertility is even worse. Chinas fertility was declining before they installed the one child policy as well; it’s possible it had no real effect. I just don’t think French people suddenly decided to have kids because Macron said so. Even bringing up the climate anxiety antinatalism in schools, how much of a difference is that making really? I rarely see someone who justifies not having kids because of climate, and when I do I would guarantee that’s just an excuse. I’ve convinced people making this claim in argument before, but they never turned around and said “I guess I’ll start looking into kids”, without skipping a beat they come up with a new reason not to have kids.
