  1. When not in use it is a VIOLATION to have a hitch rotruding past the bumper, if you look at where the mount is, just flush with bumper , with a cover when not in use. A trailer hitch protruding is a hazard, when not in use to pedestrians and for rear collisions, ever wonder why they are made to be REMOVED when not in use.....DOT SAE rules
