Cars from the 60s 70s are ,and where junk compared to modern efficient, safer much better performance,vehicles. 60s with high maintenance,parts didn't last. Stuff today is much better

@dantesinfernopurgatory7826 I've had cars since the 1960s...todays stuff is so superior to stuff ..60 70,80 90,stuff was junk, compared to now,better paint,much less maintenance,more efficient,safety,comfort. Old stuff was a maintenace nightmare and stuff would start rotting in 3 years...giant inefficient v8 engines in cars had less hp and torque than my 2.0l turbo in vw golf r. Even manual trans 6 speed over the useless 3 speed manuals. Old junk,is just that..junk

My 1998 VW Jetta VR6 went 316,000 fun limes, never touched timing chain or guides or anything. never had an issue

@dantesinfernopurgatory7826 I had a dozen various 1980's to early 2000's. not reliable, and they where also a maintenance nightmare, and under performing, I had every decades worth of vehicles, current 2019 VW Golf R is the best one yet super quick, handles like on rails, and 89,000 fun not a burp miles. maintenance is a few filter changes, oil every 10K, and a serpentine belt every 60K. I get 100K out of brakes consistently highway driving, stuff from 60's or 80's ate brakes like a melting ice cream cone, they where mostly GM junk company cars, since I went with VW some decades ago, no such issues. One serpentine belt replaced the old 3 fan belts, that where worn out in 20K miles...new is better

@donfayetteville3582 you used to have to bring firewood in to make heat and cook now modern stoves and heating systems most people don't work on either. But I do I installed my minisplits,I fix gas stoves,or electric,and lots of other stuff. New is better than old. I actually just the other day fixed a dishwasher it had a bad door latch door wouldn't stay shut,spring worn out in switch latch assy. Found exact replacement part oem installed,door is now secure like it was never broke. Lots of people would call a service and pay a lot for appliance repairs...I fix it all. It's all basic stuff...like in cars

@DIYDaveOK I never had any vw die. I keep till 200 000 miles or more. They are just broken in at 100 000 miles. My one vw I kept for 316, 000 fun reliable never stranded miles. Simple mfg maintenace keeps cars running fine. And none of that change oil way before mfg specs. That's utter nonsense. Latest is every 10k miles for all 4 vws in the family...never any problems

@DocZoidberg549 still using your rotary phones, and candles for lights? A nice 28" B&W crt tv? R22 AC system? Incandescent lighting as an upgrade for some rooms without candles?

@donfayetteville3582 yup, stuff all works on the same basics, it's just where some switches are, or mounts. Screws is screws, etc etc. I have not worked on a time machine yet, that might be beyond me

@donfayetteville3582 machining tolerances have indeed improved , and metallurgy is much better now in engines than stuff from the 60's 70's 80 90's. Yes it has improved, and so has lubrication internals and the actual oils. New is better.

@DocZoidberg549 no, asking questions, since old is your forte'...why use new stuff, it's too efficient and better. Nothing like a 40 year old GE fridge right, cus they last longer than new, but use 1000 times more energy....

LED tv is so last year OLED, everything else is old, my 77" OLED is better than any LED tv.

@dantesinfernopurgatory7826 The carbon issues where resolved on latest version of 2.0L turbo, more cooling in the top end, no issues on mine so far 89K miles. I don't drive anywhere near what I used to routinely 1000 miles a week easy, highway, which is best for any vehicle. I don';t use any oil between 10,000 mile oil changes, never add any. none of our VW's use oil between changes. We got lucky, I did read of issues. I have also been with the same VW dealer since 1987 all have come from them, Even an Audi A6 2.7 Bi turbo 5 valve per cyl !! with 6 speed manual, that car was super slick ,same guys are mostly still there after all these years. Piech made VW the empire it is, and he did develop lots of stuff, Quattro, and engines for Benz, Porsche and VW...a car guru, not a bookkeeper. and with like 10 kids from 4 wives!!! Part of the clan that owns VW

@donfayetteville3582 and my father had to shovel coal into the furnace for heat,then gas fired complicated furnaces came about. It got so complicated. Oy vey. It was horrible.

@donfayetteville3582 the old cars also had lots of bright heavy metal on the dash and door panels to rip you apart in a crash. Todays have too much soft uneventful cushioned plastics. The horror of it all.
