My wife had a job which involved visiting farms in rural Somerset throughout the year, in the days before mobile phones. I bought her an original Panda 4x4 with winter tyres which never let her down. The old style tubed tyres meant that as well as the spare we kept an inner tube ready to go. I once drove it over ice to collect people from the station and it was the only vehicle on the road.

I bought one for my wife after a business trip to Italy when I saw one perched on top of a mountain where the only visible road was a winding dirt track.

For cars where exhaust noise and regular firing intervals are desirable, the 360 twin with balance shaft makes more sense than a 90 degree twin which still needs a (smaller) balance shaft but causes more transmission vibration due to the irregular firing. The engine may also be narrower; the Twinair has a three bearing crank but the RE Interceptor needs 4. Fiat knew what they were doing.

@ It turns out that 76 or 90 degrees makes an insignificant difference, the theoretical advantage of the 14 degrees doesn't really affect real world but it is a little more expensive to make, and it still is not a "real" 90 degree V twin, it just sounds like one.

@ "Recovery gap" might apply to single cylinder dirt bikes, but surely not to cars where the total angular momentum of the rotating system is extremely high.
