  1. Once upon a time I was working late in the office when I was phoned up by an irate Irish customer. Their account had been put on hold as they had returned an item which proved to be in perfect condition, so their next order hadn't been shipped, nor had they been charged. I was subjected to quite unpleasant abuse by a woman, a complete stranger. She then demanded to speak to the manager (!) at which point I left the phone, came back and said "Hello, commercial director here, can I help?" More abuse followed till I said "Would you say that to an Irish supplier?" "What do you mean?" "Are you having a go at me because I'm English?" She couldn't process it, blew her top some more and put the phone down. I realise as an inhabitant of a country with a terrible colonial record (though not a fraction as bad as the US, Belgium or perhaps even France) that this sort of thing is going to happen. Get over it, move on. Just (in this case) cancel the order. We didn't need customers like that.
