He is not an officer of the US government. To be that, he has to be approved by the Senate on or after 20th January. At the moment he's a screaming narcissist with too much money playing at being a government official.

No, "populist" means politicians who advocate doing what they think will get the votes of the uneducated, even when the results are harmful to the country. Doing what "the public" wants is likely to be disastrous, which is why we have representative democracy - as do just about all developed countries. Athens discovered this - initally the franchise was limited to the upper middle classes, people who could afford to take time off to attend debates. The test was being a freeman who could afford a hoplite panoply - equivalent today to being able to buy your own armoured car and lend it to the government. As the franchise extended down the social scale, to keep people supportive of the government, decision making got worse and worse, they were more likely to listen to Farage types and make really bad decisions, and as a result eventually lost the wars with Sparta and Athenian democracy was over. It lasted about 50 years.

@gswiftgs23 Chinese naval base definitely. Their government promises not to interfere with other countries' governments.
