I don't. It amuses me that a song written to attack the Scots is still the National Anthem.

@ProfessorTimWilson Doesn't alter the fact that it is part of the original. Though I guess you could argue that Germany dropping the first verse of Deutschland über Alles is similar. Maybe we should adopt the German anthem in English. Unity and Justice and Freedom is a good first line.

@annepoitrineau5650 No, it's the Scots. It's all about crushing rebellious Scots, confounding their politics and frustrating their knavish tricks. The most unsuitable anthem imaginable unless you are a member of the English Conservative Party.

@jamonit7169 It's complicated, because since 1688 the monarch has been de facto elected by Parliament - how W&M came to the throne when James did a runner. They are effectively a non-executive president for life. You reminded me of a retired colonel I used to work with. He used to say that thinking of some of his fellow serving officers it was just as well people saluted the uniform rather than the person inside it.

They did send Rupert Murdoch to destroy ours.

Er no, Land of Hope and Glory is about colonial expansion. God Save the King is an anti-Scots song, they just miss out most of the verses. Rule Britannia is an injunction to the Royal Navy to control the world's shipping.

In case you don't know, Palestine was a British protectorate for many years and we were supposed to keep the peace there. Then thanks to the US we had to hand it over to a lot of Eastern European thugs, since when we have done nothing to protect the Palestinians. In fact, we continue to support the Likudniks when we should be supporting organisations like Btselem. Palestinians have a strong case against both the UK and the USA.
