In Warminster one of the banks closed. They got protests, and the protesters were told that under 40 people used the branch regularly so, if they didn't all mind paying £4000 a year each to keep it open...

@ I don't think the multimillionaire Conservative owners of the hotels are too worried about high street bank closures, frankly.

We've moved from Somerset to near London. The move has been an eye opener about how the West Country has deteriorated. NHS, public transport, services. We had to downsize quite a bit to make the move, but it has been worth it. The people around us voted Leave. One of them said before we moved that they never imagined that they would have to go through passport control to visit their house in Spain and not stay there more than 90 days.

@ Really? I think the supermarkets have done that. If planning consent has been refused in the past, they have threatened councils with litigation that could bankrupt them.

@fanfeck2844 And your solution is? Supermarkets were OK till they started building big out of town business parks. Ask a retired planner, they'll tell you.

@anchorface9671 You mean banks that make money whiter than white? Ordinary drug dealers move money through "barber shops", successful ones do it through the City of London.
