It isn't difficult really. The Lib Dems are a regional party with a few areas where they are the alternative to the Cons rather than Labour. So, they get seats. When they have a leader like Charles Kennedy who unites rather than divides, they get more seats. When they have an apparently delusional one like Swinson, they get fewer. Reform is a right wing pressure group which has persuaded a few very left behind areas to support them. But they don't have enough support in the rest of the country to persuade enough people that they could represent them. Most of the country is totally unworried about immigration. Farage keeps on about it constantly. Most of the country detests Trump. Farage worships him. He doesn't represent 85% of the population as a whole. In a representative democracy, an MP is supposed to represent their constituents, not the country as a whole. Only about 15% of voters are, to put it bluntly, antisocial and xenophobic. Only a few percent believe in a Marxist revolution. The election result was to be expected, therefore, since the majority in most constituencies have no time for extremes.

I get the impression that you neither understand politics nor how a US administration works. By your logic, Obama deserved a third term because of the relentless, lying attacks on him by Trump.

@dalecrocker3213 Well, you read Nassim Tabeb's Fooled by randomness and realise that most traders actually end up bust or get out quick.

@ So is justice an abstraction, try committing murder in front of witnesses and argue that it doesn't exist. We now know that the particles which make up the visible universe are themselves some kind of abstraction, virtual entities popping in and out of existence around a kind of median value. So by your argument the world doesn't exist.

Two tier policing indeed. I'm afraid people like me - white, Oxbridge, RP when it suits - tend to get on well with the police, certainly at the higher levels. People like you on the other hand - if you ever get arrested get a solicitor and shut up when they tell you to. That's how it is for people like Farage and Tice...

In the good old days (!) of East End gangsters, people like him were liable to end up as part of the foundations. They didn't want their cosy arrangements with the Conservative Party upset.

@ronniesimpson9141 It's interesting that the heads of the two biggest car companies - Toyota and VAG - get paid many times less than Elon Musk, who is trying to get $50 billion out of Tesla despite its being very much second tier, behind Toyota, VAG, Mercedes, Honda, Stellantis, Hyundai, Renault, BMW and before long BYD.

@rebecca_noble You speak for the entire voting population of the UK? Who are you exactly?
1
@ I don't pretend to speak for a majority of the population.

@rebecca_noble France is at 110%, Italy 138%. The EU does not have a US-style religious Constitution. Look up "derogation". It's a nice Latinate word that describes what the EU does when the facts on the ground differ from the ideal.

@rebecca_noble What is "Copilot"? I have never heard of an EU body of that name.To me it means the other guy in the cockpit.
