@squeemlives Badenoch's mother came by plane to a private hospital, registered birth then went back to Nigeria. It was that kind of abuse of process that caused the rules to change. My grandson has US citizenship because he was born there when his father was working there, but they came back due to the 2008 slump. It will be interesting to see how this works out.

It isn't a case of a "serf mentality", that's just name calling. It is because at one time UK citizenship was the most valuable in the world and people tried to exploit it.

@ I don't quite understand the playgroup analogy, but coming over apparently solely so that your child would have British citizenship, seems different from the intention of the law. "Surprise surprise, people use systems to their own benefit." Some of us call that "exploiting loopholes". As a socialist I believe the law should function for the good of the many. I am guessing you are of right wing views. For information, I am not at all opposed to immigration into the UK. My dentist is Nigerian, my wifes GP is Nigerian, no problem with that at all. But I do feel that citizenship, the right to vote, needs to be based on a little more than birth location.
