Loomer reminds me increasingly of Morticia Addams, but without theintelligence, charm, character and family values.

There were officially no women on the ships of Nelson's Navy... Actually there were. After the Battle of Trafalgar, they petitioned to get the same medals the male crew did. They were turned down because there wasn't enough spare metal to make enough medals. As well as cleaning and cooking, they ran the powder magazine during battle because they were safer at it than the men. They and the young trainees ran the powder up to the guns. When Lord St. Vincent complained that the ships were using too much water, Nelson replied that if the women did not have enough water for cleaning, the ships would soon be unusable. We know that at least one officer turned out to be transgender and there were almost certainly more. In those days "turning a blind eye" was a fact of life. Trump substitutes irrational hatred for intelligence. It has got him a long way but he is getting more exposed.

Only one core campaign promise remains, the one he didn't say out loud: "I will do my best to keep uppity non-white people and women in their place." And that's the one that got him elected.

Meanwhile Drumpf has put 25% tariff on the small quantities of special steels supplied to your aerospace and arms industries by the UK, because he and his band of idiots don't understand that steel and aluminium are a wide range of different materials, some of which the US doesn't make. Well, you gave the monkey the key to the banana plantation, and then he let in the African elephant which is currently grubbing up all the banana plants.
9
Trump notoriously cheats at golf, and 80 million Americans think someone who does that is fit to be President. Would anybody be surprised if Trump's best Afro-American buddy has a complicated relationship with playing games?

Musk cannot force Bluesky to sell itself to him, unless the USA goes literally fascist (i.e. government controls industry and big capitalists own the government.)
8
You know this is exactly what Hitler did after taking control of the government? Either replacing people with henchmen or putting them in as a parallel organisation where even he could see that removing all the management would result in chaos. And spying on everybody he could.
7
If only the US had a politically independent police force that could enforce judgments. But you haven't.
7
From one person who paid attention in economics classes to another, greetings.😊
6
Musk's desire to replace people with robots is, I suspect, related to his apparent autism which makes human interaction difficult. I'm not totally sure I want a future in which people are replaced with things.
6
Trump shares are falling very slowly given their actual worth - about $0.01. The real research needs to be into how they are staying so high, and why the SEC is not investigating how a company making large losses continues to have such a valuation.
6
If there is an agency you really, really do not want disrupted unless you are a raving psychopath, or in the pay of Russia, it's the FAA.
5
The answer is blowing in the wind, my friend, the answer is blowing in the wind.
5
The Senate could stop this tomorrow, but they are afraid. It is exactly the same situation as under Caligula, though with a car maker rather than a horse for Consul.
5
I wonder if under Trump/Meta's new policies you're allowed to say that Jews should not be allowed to own social media?
5
However Trump attacks someone else, it's always for something he himself does.
5
The shocking thing is evangelicals who claim to be Bible literalists - because if they were, they would sell their wealth and give the proceeds to the poor, tear down their churches and only meet in one another's houses, and do what they are told to do by the government. Fortunately for me the God I don't believe in is the Jewish god, but what's their excuse?

TSLA has not crashed - it had an irrational surge when Musk took over the government, which is slowly correcting. Even a year ago it was massively overpriced - VW is now technically ahead on full self driving (testing vehicles in Norway rather than benign semi-deserts), Waymo ahead on robotaxis, and there is no evidence that there is anything special about Musk's AI. The only vehicle Musk had a hand in is a flop, and a cheaper Tesla will be up against Stellantis, VW, Renault, Hyundai, Leapmotor and others. Despite hiccups, TO3s and Renault 5s are in production and the new smaller VW is in the hands of a few journalists. The only things holding up the share price are low transaction volume (low market testing) and Wall Street's fear of contagion.

I've known two extremely nice South Africans, both real engineers. One of them helped provide electricity to the townships. One of them involved himself in getting technical training to black South Africans that the government didn't want them to have. They are both, sadly, no longer with us. But at least they haven't had to find out about Musk.

Musk thinks he's a Roman emperor. You know, the sort who after the battle is won by other people, leads the big parade. He needs the downside: the slave repeating in his ear "Remember, Caesar, you are only human." (Memento, Caesar, te mortalem esse). It might help his mental health.

A two seat Prius replica
3
Short answer? I object to Musk trying to change the future without a democratic mandate. Would you be so happy if it was a communist billionaire trying to chang the future, I wonder?
3
Full self driving is a decade late.
3
You know that since Monty Python most scriptwriters have been to top universities? There's a reason for that. The average pefson can't even tell someone else's joke properly.
3
Krushchev on capitalism: "We will be present at your funeral." Putin: "Can someone arrange a black suit and a top hat? I may need it earlier than expected."
3
Which is exactly what he wants.
3
Exactly. In China you don't have a vote but you can join the Communist Party and take part in policy discussions. In the US you have a vote but it doesn't work for anything that makes your life better.
2
And no aircraft, military or shipbuilding company? Leave Boeing to sink?
2
No, he's just creating more people who will be miserable but excuse him.
2
We all know it's China, Mexico and Canada that are totally responsible for the drug trade, no Americans involved. Also the Sacklers are lovely people.
2
The Daily Telegraph (Trump-supporting) in the UK has been predicting the collapse of the EU for over 30 years. It refuses to pay attention.
2
@liquiddevil7396 We got rid of our Trump after three years and he isn't coming back.
2
He can try all he likes, I don't think they'll let Musk be the next Pope. Maybe the "pastor" at some creepy magachurch _megachurch_.
2
Fast track citizenship $5 million Fast track President $250 million. What happens when an oligarch offers Trump $500 million to be President? Does Musk up the ante or get the push?
2
If you "meet your Maker" where it's very hot, are you referring to the Big Bang or supporting the Manichaean heresy that Satan created this world?
2
@johnclements6614 Thing is, Mercedes has an electric taxi already that can carry 8 people. Once self driving is sorted they can add it. The systems are already there in an EV. Musk claims his cybertaxi will be cheap, but different jurisdictions have different rules and his one probably won't be saleable in most places.
2
At this point the Lizard People would be an actual improvement.
2
@Terrackhimself The thing is, Musk being somewhat autistic wants to eliminate human interactions. But for most people part of going out is interacting with the staff. Not obviously fast food places like McDuck, but then people are deserting them for individual non-chain restaurants and cafés.

Moderation will be retained to remove anti-Trump posts exactly as on Twitter.
1
It was caused by electing a Kenyan to the White House rather than a South African. That pesky Constitution needs a rewrite, says the man who bought into Tesla and then demanded he be listed as one of the founders.
1
So rather than being a cynical follower of the Third Reich to protect his business and workers like, say, Schindler, he's a really sincere Nazi like Von Braun? I am not sure you are making the point you think you are.
1
Jesus was OK with the Roman Empire and even paying taxes. It was the MAGA equivalent of the day - the Scribes and Pharisees - and their constant asking for money that he objected to.
1
Slovenia is an advanced country, perhaps the most successful to emerge from former Yugoslavia. Dobre din and don't let the door hit your backside on the way out.
1
Мёртвые души by Gogol. It's actually very appropriate since it's in part about landowners' dead serfs still being counted as part of their property, and Trumpmusk wants to turn the US into a pre-Revolutionary Russia.
1
Those aren't character flaws. His character flaws are that he is a narcissist on the autism spectrum who cannot relate to other people except insofar as they do what he wants. Unfortunately some people like that become very successful. Even Hitler, awful as he was, had better emotional intelligence, which is how he came to rule Germany.
1
@daveandjanwoolf8078 American games obsession, everybody has to belong to a "team". The land of freedom is the land of sheeplike behaviour, in my experience.
1
@timg1246 At the time of the riots (rapidly stopped and less serious than Jan 6th.) he stated the UK would have a civil war, which was ridiculous hyperbole but possibly intended to help incite one. He also attacked the British caving expert who said his submarine wouldn't work with grossly abusive language.
1
In the USA yes, elsewhere there are already better alternatives.
1
Not even Meloni or Le Pen.
1
You realise that for Musk to become officially President, the US will need to annex South Africa? Perhaps that's his plan. Get his hands on the gold, diamonds, and a big source of cheap labour.
