Snow is not RARE in Australia, the high country and alps in VIC and NSW are always under snow every year around June-August.

@zzzzz8421 we understand the reasoning behind the decision to cull the feral cats but now you’ve got a mouse plague and this isn’t a run of the mill mouse plague like you say, the farmers say different and you reap what you sow. Decisions in life have consequences.

It’s snows in the high country and alps of NSW and VIC every year, not to meantion Canberra and Tasmania which usually get snow even in the low lying lands.

@Thor.Jorgensen ok we get it you hate cats, you say cats and not feral cats, so that includes my house bound Tom? You’ve never seen a dog kill a possum or Bilby/ Kangaroo? You think a cat can kill those larger native animals or do we only care about the birds because it’s the cats prey? Should all dogs be killed and wiped out from Australia? FERAL cats (and I include peoples cats who roam free killing in the neighbourhood) are bad for Australia’s native wildlife but killing them in large numbers has clearly made mice flourish, you don’t need to be a scholar to see and you reap what you sow. I think this mouse plague is much worse but eh 🤷🏻‍♂️

Australia has no winter? Excuse me? This comment bothers me the most cos it’s the most wide spread bulls#t rumour. Im not saying it’s the arctic but Australia has cold areas, the country is massive! Where I live in Melbourne, we get cold snaps coming up from Antartica during winter and think about poor frosty Tasmania 😁 My Canadian friends visited me in July and were wearing their Canada goose jackets in 1 degree weather complaining about how icy the winds are in Melbourne. Then there’s the snowy mountains, the highlands along the great dividing range, Canberra with a continental climate (snow in winter) and Tasmania, the coldest state. The only places in Australia with no winter is the tropical north, even Brisbane while mild can have cold winter days. Aboriginals have managed to contain fires in Australia for thousands of years, fire is nothing new to Australia and with so much forest growth during the good rainy years (La Nina), a lot of fuels fall onto the forest floor and then comes the drought (El Nino) making the fuel dryer and more flammable. Add to that, the monsoonal rains from India stalled near Indonesia and were 2 months late. Fast forward to February 2020 and a lot of the country including the centre under record amounts of water, record rainfalls across all states, all Sydney dams overflowed! Rainfall Records broken in every state but you don’t touch on that? Did you also forget the records broken last winter of 2019? Your facts seem more like a narrative. No amount of taxing Australian citizens into poverty over green energy schemes is going to stop fires and floods. The Aboriginals had the fires contained for thousands of years with cultural burns but apparently it’s man made? How can it be man made if it was happening thousands of years before electricity and fossil fuels were in use? Australia has also cooled over thousands of years and is factually cooler than yesteryear. I just don’t buy this hysteria of man made climate change, the country burns then immediately follows up with record rainfall over a month? It seems like a natural process. Things humans can do to help the environment and climate that most people don’t talk about, - Plant trees - Limit water usage - Recycle - install solar panels - Don’t litter or waste - Try to grow some produce at home - Install water tanks - Farmers use permaculture All proven ways to help limit humans impact on the environment and climate. If the world goes all green electric, how on earth are we going to generate that amount of energy cleanly and reliably? What about when there’s no sun? I know you think Australia’s a sunny 24/7 place but the reality is that it’s not always that way. What about the hospitals, what happens for back up during an outage? You talk about facts but they’re selective facts to suit your narrative and you have no idea of the true reality of Australian’s lives and the reality is electricity prices is what will bankrupt this country, it’s beyond a joke what average Aussies have to pay for minimal power usage and you want them to pay more? Switch on an Australian news program, make Aussies pay billions more a year for basic electricity and everyone will be living to pay the elec bill and bushfires and floods will still happen. Socialism and high greeny tax policies fail everywhere they’ve been implemented throughout history, yet we never learn. It’s all such a mess tbh 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

@cupguin I’m not saying that feral cats aren’t responsible for killing native Australian animals but I’ve always wondered how people know it’s feral cats doing the killing and not Dingoes, other smaller predators, rats, feral pigs or even wild dogs? Are they catching the cat kills in the act or? But I’m not a scientist, so 🤷🏻‍♂️

@lewisham I think a farmer would know what has and has not worked in terms of controlling his vermin problem on his property but ok we have a know it all here 🥴 I also find it interesting the selective outrage Australian’s (I’m Aussie btw but often too embarrassed to admit) have over feral animals, have you seen what wild dogs do to Wombats, Bilbi’s, Kangaroos and many more? Or do we only care about the animals feral cats kill? You know feral cats aren’t big enough to kill a Kangaroo sooo, do we care about that too and want to eradicate all wild dogs too or? (I’m sure the answer is “No, not the cute little puppies”). Are you as passionate about killing all wild pigs too? You probably don’t even know half the real issues going on in Australia’s ecosystem and landscape because you’ve been so wrapped up in your hatred of cats and you can see the comments throughout this thread and then link it to how people talk about killing their neighbours pets and feeling proud about it. It’s like a validation for your hatred of cats and you can tell because if you just wanted to protect Australia’s natives you’d be just as outraged about what feral deer are doing to Australia’s alps, streams and rivers and how it’s having serious consequences but they’re so cute aren’t they? Feral cats aren’t good for Australia and I get that but they’ve now been culled, pretty much gone and now we’ve got a fu*ing mouse plague and you’re still backing your hatred of cats and deny their benefits to farms and controlling pests? This isn’t up for debate, it’s written in scripture dating back to ancient Egypt - the benefits of cats controlling vermin is factual and scientific and not even up for debate. And you can be careless towards farmers but just imagine what the mice are doing to the underground borrows of our native marsupials? Do you think they’re all getting along and friendly? It’d be an absolute massacre but it’s all good cos the feral cats are gone, right? 🤓

@Thor.Jorgensen blah blah blah and when’s the end date of this extinction of native Australian animals? Feral cats have been in Australia for over 100 years now, god knows how many came across when there was a land bridge between Australia and Asia a few thousand years ago. Shouldn’t all these defenceless and doomed Australian natives be extinct by now? And to my earlier point, why aren’t you as outraged by the other feral animals? They’re doing far worse and because a lot of them are herbivores and Australia has no large predators, they flourish like the mice and are destroying Australia’s landscape, river systems, removing mass amounts of grass causing erosion and dust storms blanketing Melbourne and Sydney city’s from the outback? Have you had the brown outback rain? I’m still washing it out of the crevices in my car months later... What those feral animals are doing to Australia’s fragile ecosystem is far worse and with zero benefits, at least cats kept feral mice and rat numbers down.

@cupguin I’ve got 2 disagreements with your reply but I like how respectful you are. First issue is using the word “murder”, cats are predators and kill for food, you don’t call Lions hunting zebra - “murder”, we’re not talking about humans. Second issue is your point about cats VS the dingo problem and how cats are an issue cos they’re invasive, did you forget that dingoes are also invasive and not native to Australia? They came from Asia but because they’re cute doggos we called a feral dog “a native dingo”. So because it’s a dog and everyone loves dogs, Australians suddenly don’t care about the dog being feral and killing our natives because dogs are so cute. That’s my issue and please don’t say dingos aren’t damaging the ecosystem cos they are, the can actually catch and kill our largest animals like red kangaroos, kangaroos shouldn’t be fighting for survival against dingos, that’s not natural and Dingos have devastated the Bilby, possum and wombat populations but they’re not big enough to kill the larger invasive animals like Deer, wild boar and Brumbys so the dingos only kill our smaller native marsupials... Why is that ok? Oh yeah I forgot, we’re talking about and invasive feral dog so it’s ok, let’s adopt it in and forgive the Dingo for decimating certain marsupial populations cos they’re so cute and everyone loves Doggos, right?
