The reason is not water or lack there of, there’s plenty. The issue is that Aus coast is not built out, nowhere near and no matter how many times people carry on about how uninhabitable the interior is for human life, not all of that is true, some of it is uninhabitable like the Simpson desert, Gibson desert (actual sandy deserts) but a lot it is semi arid with rivers, flood plains, grasslands and woodlands. If countries around the world can pipe water around from wetter areas, Aus can too. The temperate, cooler parts of Aus aren’t built out yet, Aussies don’t want to live in the harsh heat and conditions, the flies, the wildlife, the crocs in the rivers and beaches, south east and south west Aus doesn’t have that problem, flies in summer sure but not on that level so it’s more of Aussies don’t have to live there and have better options, employment, housing, family, climate, etc NOT lack of water, Australia isn’t Egypt with 99% desert and a slither of green land, people need or relax, Aus green land still amounts to Europe, Victoria which is entirely green is larger than the UK, we’re fine, we have plenty of green space, having to live in the outback is completely unnecessary for most.

@rizkyadiyanto7922 that’s a somewhat old myth now, they’re growing cotton, sandalwood, tropical fruits like bananas, mangoes, chickpeas, melons, chia seeds, etc along the ord river irrigation scheme, the dam they built called Lake Argyke never runs out and is massive, completely destroying the “evaporation” nay sayers of other similar dam projects around Aus being built. The commentator of the video had me cringing repeating how the north of Aus has a water a problem, a simple rainfall records check would show you that the north gets plenty of rainfall, Amazon levels along the north east, there’s documentary’s, you can zoom in on North Aus on google maps and see for yourself and compare it to the red interior. The locals feel bad and wanna pipe water to the southern states and that can happen, like the USA, China, many other countries have done before Aus. This video is so exaggerated, the northern tropics of Aus never run out of water, even hundreds of km’s inland.
