  1. My solution is to avoid complexity by designing for high network latency on the computer that fits in your pocket. I use an App Engine Standard headless web app to pipe async messages to other phones via Firebase. The app runs on simple local file system xml. I use the cloud as a message switch and Google does all the heavy work for pennies a month.
