@marksamson1753 Maps are maps. They are to include ALL geographical areas regardless of political borders. These Spanish maps also had Borneo in it. Did they also claim Borneo? No! Also, the UN ruled that countries cannot make claims on a historical basis. So no point going down the "historical" route. Fact of the matter is, China has the strongest claim to the islands out of all the claimants. Vietnam is next in line. But China has literally a written letter (1958) from the then Prime Minister of Vietnam that stated they acknowledge and respect Chinas claim over the now disputed islands, so Vietnams legitimacy over the islands greatly diminishes. And PH has no sovereignty over anything in the SCS as per their handover treaty, so PH is out of the picture. Not even sure why PH is so adamant of going to war with China they have no legal claim over. The only for PH to get anything in the SCS is to go to war, but can they win is the question?

@Omsim-k1r If the Chinese said that, then I must investigate which territory, check the records, history and treaties (if there is) before making any judgement. But as far as I know, they never said that. What I do know is that in PHs sovereignty handover treaty, nothing in the SCS was given back to PH. Not a speck of dust, nor a drop of water.

@wintermalerkey6830 Im not Chinese. Nor do I need to be Chinese to have an input. But I do know that after strenuous investigations, out of all the claimants, China has the strongest claims. Next is Vietnam, and PH has the weakest. In fact, PHs sovereign borders are set in stone due to your treaties. Not a single speck of dust nor drop water in the SCS belongs to PH. And no, according to international law, UNCLOS is incompatible to sovereign claims. UNCLOS only delineates the maritime boundaries, not determine sovereignty. Also no, they dont claim the EEZ, they claim sovereignty, 2 completely different things. Do read more before repeating what others say without verifying.

@kaagapay_nyo EEZ does not trump sovereignty. Sovereignty trumps EEZ. And as per PHs sovereignty handover treaty, PH has zero sovereignty over anything in the SCS. Not a speck of sand, nor a drop of water. Moreover, under international law, nothing China has done is illegal there. So not sure where your "illegal" assertion came from. Maybe "illegal" under PH laws? But PH has no sovereignty ie no jurisdiction over anything in the SCS, so how PH deem something outside of PH as "illegal"?

If their own country recognises them as one, and that they themselves identify as one, then theyre Chinese as everyone else is concerned. And you kind of contradicted yourself there. You said you wanted to remind "Chinese" descendants that theyre not "Chinese". Then what are they? European?

@markgilsantiago2077 Of course I understand it. Ive read the whole thing. How about YOU read it. Read the Treaty of Paris (1898) and the treaty of Washington (1900). The treaties clearly delineated the limit of the Philippine territory. And let me tell you. NOTHING in the SCS was handed over to the PH. Not a speck of sand, nor a drop of water. So stop trying to claim something thats clearly not given to you. Actually China does have written records of the jurisdiction over the islands, dated back thousands of years ago. But your media just wont tell you Chinas side of the story. And the UN doesnt recognise historical claims from ANY country. Moreover, why would China "hand over" anything? China wasnt colonised.
