@デヴィン Yes, and no. UNCLOS was never about determining a countrys sovereignty from the beginning anyways.

@デヴィン "The United States signed and Ratified the 1958 Geneva Conventions on the Law of the Sea" Where you getting your phake news from? The US did NOT ratify UNCLOS. And just because theyre "allowed" to do so, doesnt change the fact that flying military jets in someones backyard is a sign of provocation. Imagine if China or Russia decided to have their military near Cuba right at the US doorstep. What signal or news will the media spout now?

@デヴィン "Why should China get to claim that whole body of water while those nations don’t get any say in it" Because China was the first power in the region to make those claims and was uncontested. Actually, Philippines contested, but the US made it very clear that their transfer of sovereignty did NOT include any of the disputed islands close to the Philippines. "By the way, you missed my entire conversation up there about how China signed and ratified the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of Sea. That itself makes China unable to claim the amount they have" Not at all. UNCLOS says NOTHING about sovereignty. Only territorial and EEZ rights. It has already been ruled that the UNCLOS laws are "incompatible" with sovereign claims. That is, that UNCLOS CANNOT determine any countrys sovereignty over ANY territory.
